Door handle sensor trouble

Hello,

Trouble again, same thing happened to me back in February 2011.
Water shorted the door handle sensor.

The first time this happened I had to have it flat-bed towed in just like this morning. Brought all the paperwork i could found on here including the TSB Acura sent out. I brought it to Mission Viejo Acura and had no troubles there. They covered the parts and labor under the warranty and i was a happy camper.

So fast forward to last night; I walk out to my car ready to go for the night, and what do you know my car won't unlock, so I use the hard key to get in. I then try to start the car with no luck(the ignition) won't turn. I knew I had a problem. I took the ignition tab off and used the hard key to start the car, same as last time the car will start, but the alarm goes off. Just my luck I had washed the car earlier in the day.

I then called the dealership spoke with the service consultant, the lady I only deal with at MV Acura, and inform her that I'am bringing the RL in. Also my luck, they don't have a loaner available till Saturday. Luckily I have a motorcycle to get around on.

So in the end I'm hoping, its either the same door that will still be under warranty or that they will honor the TSB with the other door handle.

I will keep you updated.

Did you wash it with the key in your pocket?

I keep my FOB in the car with the door unlocked as I'm washing it from now on.

Good luck on the fix, they should cover you on this one.

*update* at 4:25pm on 12/01/11.

They believe the "multi integrated control module" is malfunctioning or not communicating correctly with the security and keyless systems. They will have to keep the car till next week. the Tech is off the next few days then going into the weekend. Will have a loaner car Saturday morning at least.... and they stating they will have to call Acura for more instructions...

LoL, the handles on these cars are a sensitive.

Next time you wash it, put the key fob in the car

Hi zRLmarine - I'm so glad I found your post! I had the exact same scenario from your early 2011 post happen to me on Friday night; I left work and my car was dead in the water until I tried to start it using the key from inside the fob. I'm pretty sure I woke up the whole neighborhood. I did figure out a way to shut of the alarm while I sat around and waited for a tow truck on Saturday afternoon, so fortunately I can still drive the car while I wait to get in for service tomorrow. My Nav screen is completely dead and when I push buttons on the console, it shuts off the little driver side speaker for 10-15 seconds. Also, the lock and trunk/gas door buttons don't work (not so good, since I'm on a 1/4 tank). Strange. I've had issues with the door handles since I bought the car in '08 along with multiple instances of the windows and sunroof deinitializing. The door handle issue addressed by the TSB is prevalent, but moreso after the car gets wet from rain or a car wash. Question: Did fixing the door handles fix the navigation screen?

You may have a combo of bad handles and a bad battery.

As I've said before, wash the car with the FOB in the car.

Service department replaced the right mirror actuator. and right door handle with sensor.

Because I previously had this problem on the other door handle last february, and i brought in the TSB paperwork they honored the one time goodwill warranty, but this time they only honored 50% off the door handle part.

out the door i paid $733.00

the right door handle shorted and shorted the mirror actuator swell that was the problem this time. I'm trying to read through the serivce paperwork they provided me, but doesn't make much sense.

and Res did you remove one of the Fuses #7? so your still able to drive your car. and yes the trunk and gas cap buttons will not work. good luck with situation. find the TSB and bring it with you to the dealer

i also know that hen i replaced the batteries in the fob a few weeks back it helped fix a few other problems i was having also. so that could be a clue to the windows/sunroof problem.... good luck again
