Question Door handle fail?!?

I recently picked up an '08 with 85,000Km and I am happy. Always loved this car and now I finally have one.

I'm taking my time trying to learn how everything works, going through the owners manual and searching the forums. The issue I seem to be having is with the door handles and the dimple. Anytime I grab the door handle, I hear the doors lock. This happends wether the doors are locked or unlocked. I'm trying to figure out how to make the doors unlock by the door handle. Both key fobs work when I lock/unlock no problem. I just dont know if I am doing something wrong or if both handles are simply not working. Is there a special technique to grabbing the handle to make the doors unlock?

unlock senseor is on the inside portion of the handle - where your fingers would curl
lock sensor is the dimple on the outside (although you can be in vicinity of dimple as well)
if you are grabbing the handle and your palm is touching the dimple, it may lcok

I just lightly grab with my fingers to unlock

How can you hear the difference between an unlock and a lock? A lock is followed by a beep. An unlock isn't.

I thought a lock was 2 beeps and unlock 1 beep

So I been outside for about 20 minutes trying every which way to get the doors to unlock and its a no go. Where exactly is the sensor to unlock? If I touch the dimple or gently graze it, the doors lock no problem. If I gently grab the door handle (on the inside or outside) nothing happens. I went to the lenght of touching each part of the handle avoiding the dimple. Nothing gave.

Is there an ability to dissable this option? I even tried to reset the options to default and still nothing.

The only time I hear a beep is after pressing lock the second time using the key fob, and its only 1 beep.

To add, I notice the option of opening my windows and sunroof with the key fob and also using the key (clockwise twice) does not work either. Could something be faulty like a fuse or something?

The sensor to unlock is on the inside of the door handle. So to unlock, first make sure it is locked. Then touch the inside ( but not the outside ) of the door handle with the key fob in your pocket. It should unlock. If not, then your door handle could be faulty and that happened to quite a number of us who have 2005/2006 models. I thought they fixed it for the younger cars though...

This works on the passenger door handle also right? Both dont work. I'd love to see one that does work so I know how it should work. I still have manufacturer warranty, do you think this is covered or do I just suck it up?

If you are under warranty, just go to the dealer to get this resolved. They will either show you how it works or fix it if it is not working properly.

Low and behold I leave for work this morning and I casually grab the door handle over the top and the the light came on and the door beeped and then unlocked. I think what was happening when I was testing was I maybe wasn't waiting long enough before trying to open. This was the first that its worked so I guess I'll monitor it. Thanks to all suggestions!

It sounds like you have a partially synced fob. If you bought from an Acura/Honda dealer, I would take it back and have them resync the fobs with their HDS.

You jogged my memory. I guess I'm losing my touch, but isn't it 2 beeps unlock, 1 beep lock?

That's odd.

I thought the light on the handle only came on with FOB press ... just using handle, light does not come on.

Or are you talking about interior light, and not the door handle light?

I'll check tonight but I think this morning at 4am the handle light came on when I unlocked it. Pointless and I might be imagining things.

Odd thing to try...reset all your windows and sunroof. After I did this for the key fob feature, everything worked like a charm and has since then.

tried it this morning with no luck I guess mine might be the handle. I even disconnected the battery again for ten minutes.

when you are cycling to position II while pressing the tilt button, make sure you are releasing the tilt before you turn the car off

and

make sure you cycle the open close limits 3 times and hold it after each cycle
