Daylight Savings Update?
Daylight Savings Update?
I found in the TSB's some reference to an update required for the car to deal with the "new" daylight savings time that kicks in later/earlier in fall and spring. I suspect the previous owner didn't do this for my 06. Is this stupidly expensive with the dealer? And I assume it's probably a separate thing from just getting the GPS updated with new discs?
The newer NAVI DVD will update the DST. I believe dealers also have a software patch they can install. I do not know if they would charge for this, so I suggest a call to your dealer.
You must have the original NAVI DVD in your RL. There have been functional updates to the NAVI in never versions. The latest annual DVD has just has been released. You can order va the links in MyAcura.com

i tried the dealer fix but they are not too swift. I even printed it out and brought it in but they couldn't seem to understand.. i think the dealer thing is a complete waste of time. I have an 07 rl with the oem dvd from 07 and still have to change the time.. I tried a couple of times at the dealer.. I told them they have to flash the memory with the update. but i think that was a little too much. and don't get me started about trying to explain it to the service advisor.. my gosh.. it is like a vacuum...something like this should be fixed or offerred as a fix for a cost to customers. I mean all software should be updated .. and we are not talking about a major update just a small fix to the calendar for dst.. I guess since it is a car, it is exempt from having a customer service expecatation.. and it is something that is apparently too insignificant to fix...
The DST fix was implemented with the 4.6x update, although I believe if you have less than 4.64, updating an 2005 or 2006 car, you might have had software update issues, such as some head units locking up. A search can dredge up that history.
When I call up the nav system info, it shows me as "Database version 20050428" "Software version 1.32.00"
If I get the new upgrade discs, it is as simple as basically swapping the discs or is there some other step that may be needed where my version is pretty old?

So now that we've gone through the daylight savings to standard time "gap" with my non-updated car, I noticed something interesting.
For the weeks where my car was off by an hour, the map position of the car on the nav display was displaced from my actual location by probably 50 to 75 feet - the map would show me about 50 to 75 feet "back" from the car's actual position on the street I was travelling on. As soon as the car's time matched up with the actual proper standard time after the time change, it's back to dead accurate.
