Dark Side of the Moon DVD-audio
Does anyone have the Dark Side of the Moon DVD-audio?
I am having trouble with my B-T and I cannot get an open port.
Send me a private message if you know what I mean
Thanks
Pete

Since no-one answered, I guess I'm the only one interested in the Dark Side of the Moon DVD-audio disc.
Unfortunately, this is not commercially available, but I managed to download a copy through a peer-2-peer program. Interesting because the 4.1 mix (4 channels plus the LFE channel) is based on the original quadraphanic mix by Alan Parsons and so if different to the SACD.
The disc sounds pretty good compared to the SACD, great surround effects, but the nice thing is that the DVD-audio plays in the RL, cool

If you have the same one as I, it downloaded as a large .ISO file that actually burned as a DVD-video, not DVD-audio, disk. It has two 4.1 versions, dolby digital and dts. The disk plays fine in a regular video DVD player, but won't play in my 06 RL. I tried using DVD Audio Extractor that turned the dts into individual .wav files, then DVD-Audio Solo to create a DVD-audio disk, but failed. For some reason, the .wav files sound like crap. I never got back to it to figure out what went wrong.

shoppit,
Sounds like I downloaded the same file, about 3.4G worth of download which took about 24 hours to totally download. When I burned the DVD, mine definitely is DVD-audio. It was reported as such on my home system and in my RL, where it plays fine.
I used a free program called ImgBurn to burn the .ISO to the disc, if you still have the .ISO you might want to re-try it ... it's worth the effort, sound in the RL is great

Well, it just gets worse. I downloaded ImgBurn and burned a DVD-R from the .ISO file. NFG, nothing changed. Here's what I know so far.
A store bought DVD-Audio loads in my RL in about 10 seconds, displays DVD-A on the dash display and plays fine. The DSOTM disk never loads, the disk number blinks on the audio screen and dash display. If I put the disk in my Panasonic DVD player, it puts a DD 4.1 and DTS 4.1 menu on the TV and plays whichever I pick. If I put the disk in my Denon 2200 universal player, it displays DVD-Audio on the deck and immediately starts playing, with no menu appearing on the TV. If I put the disk in the computer DVD burner drive, it displays the DD 4.1 / DTS 4.1 menu on the screen, but does not allow the disk to be played.
What's up with this?

Shoppit,
I created mine on a DVD+RW disc (Memorex). It doesn't show any titles in the RL, but does get listed as DVD-Audio and definitely plays. I used IsoBurn basically as defaulted, only thing I did was to point to the ISO.
Let's make sure we are talking about the same file. When I downloaded mine, I got the ISO plus a .txt and two .jpgs. The ISO properties show the name of the ISO as "Pink Floyd - Ultimate DSOTM 4_1.iso" and its size shows as 3,559,808KB.
The .txt file contents are shown in full below.
If it's the same file, using the same burning program to play in the same player (RL) then the only guess I have is that it may be the discs you are using, but that's a stretch.

.txt file contents...
Dark Side Of The Moon
From the original 1/2" Master Tapes
This is the real deal. not the usual Q8 or SQ versions with all their limitations
(limited bandwidth on the Q8, Matrixed surround on the SQ etc) but a genuine transfer from the original master tapes.
Finally you can hear Alan Parsons mix as it was always intended to be heard in studio quality audio.
The only "liberty" we have taken here is an additional .1 track. You can make up your own mind as to
whether or not it is a worthwhile addition.
It also features all new artwork in both sections specially created for this DVD-Audio release
The disc will play on all DVD players, as it is a DVD-Audio/Video "hybrid" containing the following:
Audio_TS
MLP Lossless at 24/96 Resolution in 4.1
Video_TS
DTS from 24/48 Source files
Dolby Digital from 24/48 Source files
Additionally, it is possible to play both the lossy streams from DVD-Audio players.
Each type has it's own menus. What you can access is dependant entirely on your player.
All Authoring, Encoding, Post Production and design is exclusive to this release.
FEEL FREE TO DISTRIBUTE THIS DISC TO OTHERS, BUT ALWAYS "AS IS" AND IN FULL.
PLEASE DO NOT RIP AND REPOST IN ANY OTHER FORMAT. THERE IS NO NEED AS ALL DVD PLAYERS CAN READ THIS DISC,
AND DOING SO WILL DEPRIVE OTHERS OF THE FULL HIGH RESOLUTION FORMATS USED.
ADDITIONALLY, RIPPING TO DTS-CD WILL INVOLVE QUALITY LOSS DUE TO DOWNSAMPLING, AND WILL
REDUCE THE LISTENING PLEASURE FOR OTHERS.

Mine is named the same, but 3,599,808 kb. It unpacked the same DOSTM Info.txt file, but three .jpg's (DSOTMlabel.jpg 134 kb, DSOTMlabel .jpg 301 kb and DVDCoverDSOTM.jpg 901 kb). Close but not exactly the same.

My bad, the size is 3, 599, 808 as you state.
I double checked the DVD that I used to write it to, it is a Memorex DVD+RW.
My two jpgs are the label and cover graphics ... looks like you have an additional label over me.
Looks like we have the same ISO files, this is strange. Have you tried looking in the TL forum to see if anyone over there has similar issues?

Shoppit,
OK, so I just checked what I get when I point to the .ISO file using ImgBurn, version 2.1.0.0 ...
I see the following:
Source: Pink Floyd - Ultimate DSOTM 4_1.iso
Label: THEULTIM
Imp ID: Gear UDF
File Sys: ISO9660, UDF (1.02)
Sectors: 1,799,904 (MODE1/2048)
Size: 3,686,203,392 bytes
Time: 400:00:54 (MM:SS:FF)
I am using a LITE-ON DVD burner.
If yours checks out the same, then I am at a loss on what might be happening.

Everything's the same, except for the DVD burner. How do you explain that you used a DVD+RW when ssim3 says the RL can't read +R? This is over the top; I think I'm better off sending you some money for a working copy.

I have just tried burning this same ISO image, and it does not play on my RL. It does play on my computer and a Sony DVD changer which is usually very finicky. I first tried a TDK 16x DVD+R and used Sonic Recordnow+. Then I tried a Fuji 8x DVD-R and used Nero. The disk number just blinks indefinitely on the RL. I will keep trying some other options.

Sorry to have been offline for a while, I have been out of the country on business for the last 2 weeks.
I am also at a loss as to why I have a DVD+RW that plays on my RL, yet you guys are having trouble. It doesn't sound like I did anything different, maybe it is the burner?
Regarding ssim3 saying that the RL cannot read DVD+RL, this is obviously incorrect since I have a DVD+RW that plays.
