Cold Night. Car starts. No sound
Cold Night. Car starts. No sound
2005 Acura RL.
Freezing last night, I start the car no issues, heat on etc. The navigation color and saved settings are erased, no sound, over head display for radio, temp, disc, etc. does not turn on.
Drive the car for 2-20 minutes it all comes on randomly and goes back to saved setting.
Advice? Thought maybe battery and put it on trickle charger for 24 hours. Still has same problem.

I havent noticed that. We're gonna have another cold one here in Syracuse so Ill check for that tomorrow morning. Judging from other ppl's threads I'm going to need a new battery soon. Random electronics fail when battery charge is low in these RLs
UPDATE: Yes it says driver 1 when i just started it. Not giving electronic sound issue though.
I've got some cold weather gremlins now. In morning I get Check Emission and SH-AWD warnings. Afternoon after weather warm-up, no warnings.
Pretty sure it is not battery as it is <2 yrs old and I am on my 3rd battery

I should have clarified my "cold" weather. It only gets down to mid 40s at night here.
My car exhibits the steering wheel not telescoping when battery gets weak - or at least it did the previous times I replaced it.
I'm not saying it could not be the battery, but I would be surprised

uh oh
It happened this afternoon in mid 50s weather. Both warnings. So maybe they are legit.
I put the AWD monitor on the MID. It showed torque varying between F and R as well as left to right, so seemed to be working correctly. Also did not feel any different driving.
I have a small trip over NY's and cannot get car to Dealer until after

Update and sorry to the OP for hijacking thread.
Service says emission check was O2 sensor. That said, I asked them to check battery and they said it was getting weak. I told them that if emission warning comes up again after replacing then they owe me $
On a side note, I was talking to Servie Mgr and asked him when they were getting the new RL. He claimed ignorance and did not even refer to it as RLX. He did not even know that the 1st version would be FWD nor a Hybrid AWD later in the year.
So when waiting for car to be done, I quizzed sales people. They were equally ignorant. Had no clue that there was a hybrid RLS version or that first version would be FWD.
1 Salesguy even admitted that he does not do his homework.
Why would I buy a car from people like this?

A little more on the above as I had to take dog for a walk
So I am waiting for car to be washed after the service. Go into show room and a sales guy engages me. I say, I'm waiting for my car, but its a 2005 RL and I really want the new RLX. Do you know when you are getting it in. He says no, but gives me his card as he "really" would like to sell me one. I say good, but I don't want the FWD, when do you think you will het the hybrid AWD. He says he knows nothing about either. I say its all over the magazines. He says "I don't do my homework". What do you respond to that.
So still waiting and another younger sales guy approaces me. I start with the same line. He gives me his card as well. Then I say that I think it is a mistake to market the FWD model first. He says why? I say that car enthusiasts prefer RWD. He says why, FWD is better and that only high end Infinitys have RWD. Me: Really? what about Mercedes, BMW, Audi? Him: he was only talking about Japanese makes. Me: what about Lexus? Him: no clue. Then I ask him what racing cars have FWD? He says, well F1 has AWD. Me: really, want to bet on that? Do you know why race cars do not have AWD? Him: no clue.
Now, these are sales people that probably sit around with nothing to do 50% of the time. Think they could pick up a car magazine and read something about there product or their competitor.
I won't bore you with the 3rd sales person interaction.
On a postive side, I saw an ILX in the showroom. I thought it looked pretty nice plus it was a hybrid, I did not know they offered a hybrid ILX. That said, I could not find anywhere on the sticker what the hp of the elecric engine was. Gas was 111hp. (guess I should be reading those magazines)

What does a race car having RWD have to do with buying a road car? Nothing. I'll take FWD and AWD over RWD anyday.

Actually, There have been AWD F1 cars(Lotus), as well as 6 wheel cars, some with 4 fronts(Tyrrell) and some with 4 rears.(Williams)
Also while there has not been any FWD entrants in F1, there are many race cars in other series that are FWD.
But yes, the salesdroids were dumbasses.

I remember those 6 wheel cars and the AWD ones as well, but did not want to make it too complicated for the sales guy. He was still trying to look it up on his iPhone when I left.
UPDATE: had the battery replaced. Problem happened again in the first week once or twice. Since then hasn't happened again and we've had some really cold nights. Odd but the battery seemed to have been the fix
