CD read problems

Sorry in advance for not being able to find this problem useing search. I have some disks that will not play. They are normal store bought CDs but when I select them all I see is a flashing disk number on the audio screen and the dash display. Both my DVD-A seem to play but not all my CDs. They used to so I'm thinking there is some sort of dirty lens problem. Since I can't find many posts referencing this problem I'm guessing its rare. Can someone steer me in the right direction for a solution please?

If another CD plays, even DVD audio, I think you can rule out the lens. Not to be a jackass, but I think it is worth reading the manual instructions to make sure you are not overlooking something. It may also point out what the screen is trying to tell you.

You definitely aren't the first person to have issues with playing a CD. Sometimes, it is user error, and sometimes, the unit needs to be sent to Alpine for a refurb. Usually, a used unit from eBay is cheaper.

Most all of them play in spot 3. One of the DVD-A disc's play in all 6 spots but the other one only plays in spot 5. Everything was fine last year.

You didn't really suggest reading the manual did you? What part of playing CDs in this car is complicated?

Thanks for replying but I truly expected this was a common problem and a simple fix was buried in the past forum posts. I guess not.

CDs are on their way out the door. Like I mentioned, we get issues time to time, but not every owner plays them. Yes, I did suggest reading the manual right after I lead with an acknowledgement of simplicity. There have been numerous posts about people who can't load the CD because the blinking red LED sends them into a trance. I have a reason to suggest simple solutions.

It sounds to me like your head unit is on the way out. You can take it to the dealer to have alpine refurbish it (I assume you drive around with an empty cluster) or you can buy a used one from a wrecked RL. Try to find mine. It likely still has my Led Zeppelin greatest hits Volume III in it.

I don't listen to CDs much anymore either but I still love the sound of those DVD-A discs. Plus I'd like to be able to sell the RL with a working CD player. Thanks for the more serious answer. I was hoping for a simple fix but there doesn't seem to be one so I'll look for a replacement.
