Can you use phone's built-in voice rec?

My BlackBerry has really nice voice recognition that automatically scans from my address book. I don't have to prerecord a name for every one of my contacts and phone #s. Is it possible to access that through my RL bluetooth dialing?

I don't think so. You have to add a separate voice tag to the car's phonebook for each contact, even if you already have one in the phone, if you want to voice dial by name via the car's BT.

Mike is correct. The voice tags on your phone are different from the voice tags on the RL's Bluetooth Voice Recognition. The RL HFL does not synch with any phone's address book either. They are seperate and somewhat redundant when entering new or editing existing entries.

There's no way I'm going to go through and record a voice tag for all of my contacts. I add/edit contacts way too often to keep up with it. I can click a button on my phone without looking and say the name that I want to call. It scans my contacts list and finds the info. I don't have to pre-record any voice tags. Anyway, now the question. I've been experimenting around to find a good way to start a call from my phone and the RL HFL pick it up? My boss has a VW Passat and if he initiates a call on his phone the bluetooth in his car goes with it. Just like any active bluetooth headset would. So far though, I have to tell my phone to activate the HFL for it to work. That takes some effort and looking at the phone more than I would like. Anybody else tried this? Is there an easy way to do it?

Just intiate the call with your phone as you always do. Once it is dialing tap the HFL button on the steering will and say 'Transfer'. The RL's HFL should pick up the call from there.

You can do the reverse if you are on a call with HFL and need to leave the car. Tap the HFL button, say 'Transfer' and the call will tranfer to the phone so you can get ut of the car mid conversation.

For similar reasons, I only keep a handful of numbers in the HFL address book,,, home, office, voicemail, family members, etc.

Thanks. It worked great. I knew you could transfer a call to the phone, but hadn't thought of doing the reverse.

Actually my response was too quick. I'm still having issues. Here's how it works. I get in my RL and my BB automatically connects with the HFL. When I'm ready to make a call I have to search through my address book on my BB. I can't use the BB voice dialing because it thinks I have a BT headset on, so the microphone is turned off. Once I have the call placed, I hit the HFL and say Transfer. It tells me that there is no call in progress. I have to go to my BB, tell it to Activate the handset (thereby disconnecting the BT), then I can use the HFL and say Transfer. It's way too many steps. The only slightly better process I've found is to start the call, Tap the HFL, then turn it off. This seems to disconnect the connection to my BB. Then I can tap it and say Transfer and it picks up. This takes a while and whoever I've called is sitting there saying Hello, hello... Also, this keeps me from being able to voice dial, which is the safest and easiest way to use the BB. Any suggestions?

I will often use the phone and once it starts to dial hit end. I then use the HFL and say redial. A bit complicated but at least I can use the address book on the phone or voice tags.

Has anyone come up with a way to use the voice recognition of the phone (phone's contact list) instead of the RL's contact list?

Page 308-325 of the manual detail the HFL use, and I don't see any way to do that, although it was just a quick skim through. You may do better with a closer reading.

surprised that your BB acts like that. My phone (WM) has different settings for HFL versus BT headset. Thus, I can initiate call from phone and transfer to HFL as Tampa described
