Thanks for the above information - according to the site this will work with our 2005 RL - excellent news presuming this is all true. I appreciate the points above about losing sound quality from lower quality sources, and given the sound system in the RL, that does matter.

Has anyone out there installed one on a 2005?

I have a 2006 and the USASpec works great with my iPhone 6.

so which part do I need to buy to get Bluetooth for my 2005 RL

do I just buy the radio unit with heater controls from 2009 or is there another module I need to have Bluetooth streaming audio?

OEM option not aftermarket

There are no OEM options for an 05, only aftermarket options unfortunately.

You can probably try swapping out the bluetooth module, but to my knowledge, no one has attempted the conversion. You're more than welcome to be the first to try!! IMO, there are much simpler ways tho. I'm more than willing to be corrected though!

You're better off going aftermarket, this has been known to work: https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-a...-844040/page2/

I read on here somewhere that it can be done by yourself. if you do, please remember us and video-graph it

so wheres the Bluetooth module? is it built in with the audio unit? or nav unit or separate?

and whats the difference between the audio units throughout the years?

it looks to me like theres only two versions. 2005 that doesn't play mp3 and 2006 and up that does play mp3

or is there more options on newer audio unit ?

You skipped the product, its this:andsfree and Bluetooth Harnesses for your
ACURA 2005 RL

Haresses to make handsfree integrate with factory stereo, hear your caller through your car stereo speakers
Parrot Hands Free Adapter Harness qchbc-ha QUICKCONNECT

And you'll probably need to connect this (further down the list) to it. http://www.installer.com/item/displa...etooth-dmx-v2x Not sure though.

This will certainly give you the Bluetooth Audio available in newer RLs, but i'm uncertain if the phone calls would be exactly like the HFL module newer models have.

The HFL is either between the visors behind where the lights are, or behind the center arm rest console. My bet is on between the visors.

Correction, the factory bluetooth model is to the right of the glovebox, above the kick panel on the passenger side.

USASPEC bluetooth adapter...

Hey all, been a while.
Was wondering if there is a DIY for this adapter anywhere for our cars. I searched but couldn't find one, maybe youtube?

Otherwise, what are the pros and cons if any in terms of using this adapter? Hows the the bluetooth accessed on it anyhow for say, playing music from a phone? Would i need to additionally purchase a reciever? Will my audio streams be interupted by incoming calls? etc?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome back! I merged your thread with a relevant discussion that involves a lot of bluetooth streaming methods. I have no personal experience with the BT45 adapter, I only have experience with the USA Spec Ipod adapter. Maybe someone else can speak for the BT45, but it's supposed to retain the factory HFL. The BT45 attaches the same way as the ACU-XL, via the XM box on the driver side inner quarterpanel, accessed thru the trunk lining. Another member detailed it verbally, it's for the ACU-XL, but it's essentially the same process, not sure if it helps:

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-a...-05-rl-821828/

Here is an install on an MDX, once he gets to the electronics connections, it's the same idea as on the RL, the lining removal will be different obviously:

thanks for the info but now im even more confused. youre saying the usapec and bt45 are 2 different things? I thought they were 1 and that the latter was just a model number.
secondly that video looks like a crap setup in my opinion. he seemingly i assume has a maxed out ipod player, that hes sacrificing permanently into a fixed setup?
im just looking to install a bluetooth streaming setup where i can synch my phone when needed as i would in any newer car. My phone is my "ipod" Maybe im confused. (damn electronic language always confuse me lol)

Usaspec has two models that are compatible with the RL, but the fundamentals of the install is the same for both: they both hook up to your xm satellite module. The Bt45 is the unit you are looking at, the pa15-acuxl (translated to the proper rl module since he's installing on an MDX) is the model installed in the rl. the pa15-acuxl is only for ipod compatibility while the Bt45 does Bluetooth streaming without interfering with HFL. You'll find a wide variety of installations. I've seen hackjob installs and excellent installs on the same unit. But the fundamental principle conveyed in the video is that you will need to plug the Bt45 or the pa15-acuxl into the xm module either way. Hope that helps!

Yes, some people do opt to throw their iPod in the quarter panel so they don't have to run a cable through the cabin. A couple of RL owners did as well.

I have a couple questions before I spend the $230 on the BT45-HON3.
Quick facts: I have an 06 TL Navi, My DVD Drive in the trunk crapped out on me so now my navi display does not show anything and the Screen above the navi unit doesn't display anything (radio station, volume, etc.) but the A/C Temperature, Modes & the things that pertain to the A/C System. My navi screen is not the problem it's the actual DVD Drive in the trunk as it no longer reads/spins the DVD Disc.

1.) Is it mandatory/absolutely necessary to have the navigation screen & the screen above operating in order to pair/use the BT45-HON3?
2.)Even though the navigation display does not work, is there any chance that the small LED screen above the navigation unit display the music info?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

That unit hijacks the XM radio signal. Whatever functionality you have with XM you can expect from the BT-45.

Update:

My navigation doesn't work because of the DVD Unit thats not working in the trunk. The USA SPEC BT45-HON3 was installed and works AMAZING way better quality vs the cassette aux adapter I was using. Since the navi doesn't work neither does the LED screen above it work to display music info! But it works like a charm!
