Camera in Rear view mirrow

Is it possible for me to get a rear view camera inside my RL rearview mirror as they have on the MDX inside the rearview mirror.

Are you willing to retrofit the camera/rearview mirror from the MDX into your RL? Are you so old and crotchety that you can't turn around to look where you're going?

If your answer to B is "yes", I suggest a positive response for A.

lol @ crotchety.

If your willing to go aftermartket it wouldnt be a problem. If you already have the oem back up camera in the nav screen then its going to be a little more difficult.

I dont have either. This will be a totally new setup. Would it be best for me to use the oem setup with the Navigation.

The MDX advance system shows you 3 different views with distance markers on a VGA res screen. It's the only system that I have used that doesn't require the occasional use of mirrors and a few looks over the shoulder. The base MDX has the mirrorcam view which is cute but not adequate.

Well from what Ive read on the forums if you have an 06+ RL the oem backup can be added since its plug and play. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Its supposed to be around 500 dollars or so for the kit. It uses the main screen in the dash.

You can go the aftermarket route with an aftermarket mirror with built in lcd, aftermarket camera, and having everything wired in, but I think it will come out to be more than the oem option.

Not to ention on either of these if you cant do the install yourself you will be forking up money for install which can be up there depending which route you take.

no, adding an aftermarket was cheaper and works really well. Here's the forum link: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=backup

I have the same camera and it works really well. the price has dropped since the post. i paid about $250 for the interface and $70 for the camera. now i DID do the install myself, but for a total outlay of less than $350 it was worth it.

the camera is now selling for $59 (that includes shipping). Here's the link:

he doesn't have navigation, so that might be a problem?

I do have Navigation, I just thought the mirror cam was much easier to install.

well then the nav interface and ebay camera is your best/easiest bet.

I went this route on my RL and works great. If you can do the mounting and slight wiring yourself of course.

Speaking about the aftermarket rear view mirror. Has anyone installed one of these in an RL? If so, how did you run the wires?

I do have that in my 08 RL. I have the basic RL which doesn't come with camera. So the camera is aftermarket as is the rear view mirror.

Camera automatically invoked when in Reverse

It has the guidelines and decent night vision.
But I didn't install it myself, I had BestBuy install it for me. It is much better/brighter than the factory option using the navi screen.

Cool, thanks. Mine has Android and accident avoidance/lane change warning built in. I can run Waze and other apps on it and record front and back video at the same time, etc. Looking forward to getting this installed. How much did Best Buy charge you?

Back then I had Best Buy - Total Tech Support Yearly Membership which was $200 a year so installation labor was free. Otherwise it would have been $150 for the camera and rear mirror installation. If you want to install other things like remote starter and/or microphone for USA Spec Bluetooth streaming, I suggest getting the Total Tech Support Yearly Membership and have all the installation labor done for free.

Just an update.

Waze

Will post a pic of the full rearview and the split cam view.
Ran the cables myself. Was a lot easier than I expected; a plastic pry tool made it a breeze.
