Bad HF Telephone Reception
I have had my 2005 RL since Oct 05 and although I have had some complaints from people on the other end of the hands free link, overall it has been OK. Recently, I get constant complaints from people that I talk with about the clarity and bad reception they encounter when listening to me. I do not experience the bad reception from my end, their voice sounds very loud and clear. Has anyone experienced the same problem? Any solutions to making the HF clearer to people on the other end of the phone?

Yeah, I hear that all the time from my wife. And it happens when the phone is on the belt, but when I take it out and put it closer to the dash -- she says it's better. I think it's bluetooth connection interference.

Roger, thanks for the input. I assume most have good two way reception based on the lack numerous similar complaints. I'll have to move the phone closer to the dash or get a new phone.
BTW, where is the phone microphone? Anybody know?

I assume that HFL, Voice Command, and ANC all use same mic in roof in front of all the switches up there. Its a small round hole. There's one in the back too. Not sure if the rear one is only active for ANC.

I removed the phone from my belt and placed it on the little shelf infront of the Nav screen. My wife said it sounded better without the irritating echo ,not great but better.
This is a great tip for newbees...

That hole (and the identical one in the back) is only for the ANC. There is another mic for HFL/voice commands in the ceiling in the area where the Homelink/Onstar buttons are.

The microphone is located nearest to the driver from the onstar buttons if you have them. Also, it does depend on the phone with the clarity. Sometimes the HFL will disconnect when it is above the coin tray but if it is in my pocket, no problem (I have an IPhone 3G). I only have complaints when my window is down and all they hear on their end is just wind noise. :P
