Bad door Handle

I replaced my battery yesterday and washed my car too. Everything was fine all night and this morning as I drove to work. At noon today I went to my car to grab some lunch and I ran into some problems. None of the courtesy lights came on and the locks didnt work. I started it up with the actual key and the alarm goes off.

While reading up on this I saw that a member's (RaskyR1) wife "reinitialized" the key so that the car would start without the alarm going off in this old thread.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ighlight=alarm

1. Is the reintialization possible or must I pull the alarm/horn fuse so that I can make it home?

2. How do I narrow down which handle is bad so that I can replace it myself?

sorry to hear this... you could try resetting the battery again, but when my handle went bad I just drove with the alarm to the dealer.

The battery reset didnt do anything. I decided to drive in the current state until I get the parts to fix it myself. For anyone who decides to drive the car in this state and fix it on your own you will face the following.
  • You will need to remove the fuse for the horn.
  • You will need a screwdriver to release into gear.
  • The radio will work once the code is entered.
  • The nav wont work.
  • The auto locks wont work.
  • Once you start the car your lights will flash for a while. (Just leave them on and they wont flash )
  • You will need to use the lever in the trunk to open the fuel door.
Other than those annoyances, you'll be good to go until you decide to do something about the problem.

good info. Did you pull the cover off and use the physical key to start the car?

Yeah, the physical key has to be used to open the door and start the car.

Fixed, but only b/c I don't want people scratching up their interiors.

Slight update

So I took a shot and bought a passenger side door handle (60 bux) and my situation didnt change. After some thought I decided to figure out which handle it was. This is what I did.

I disconnected the RH door handle and replaced the #7 10 amp fuse. The fuse blew again so I reconnected the RH door handle, disconnceted the LH door handle and replaced the #7 10 amp fuse. This time it didnt blow so knew it was the LH door handle giving me the issues. Save yourself some time and money with a bit of trouble shooting.

Also with the troublesome handle disconnected, all of your amenities will work as they should (nav, bluetooth, courtesy lights n etc.). However, if you dont replace the fuse for the horn you will still have the following:
  • VSA light
  • SH-AWD error
  • You will still need a screw driver to release the parking break into gear.
I will be posting a WTB for a driver side handle soon.
