Backup Camera in 06 Models

Was the backup camera standard equipment in the 06's, either on the "base" car or with the CMBS/PAX package?

Yes & No. Although this feature started in '06s, not all models came with a backup camera installed. It was just an optional feature. Good thing is that you can just install an OEM camera to the system and it should work. No need to buy extra equipment like navtool.

This goes for bother the "base" tech package and the cmbs package.

Thanks - that explains why I have seen a "mix" of base and PAX cars that seem to have or not have the camera.

What's the cost and effort to put the OEM camera into an 06 car that didn't have this option originally?

Well there are several options.
1. OEM - you can get it installed it at your dealer and the price varies from dealer to dealer. If you can do a DIY you can get one for $395 on ebay including the mounting kit.

2. You can install a navpick tool like a navtool or DOMS unit and get an after market camera which costs like $200 for the navtool and 70 dollars for the camera which you have to install it by yourself.

I got a quote for $1500 to install OEM camera on my 06.
Keep us posted.

In 06 the Acura OEM camera was only available as a dealer installed accessory on either model. It was not installed at the assembly plant. It required removing the trunk release lever to install a center mounted camera and a small touch sensitive dimple was drilled into the trunk just beside the camera / lever location.

Starting in 07 the non-Navi model (now called 'Base') did not come with a camera. However the Navi (Tech) and CMBS+PAX models did come with a manufacturer installed cam. This cam was mounted off center and the center release lever was retained.

I purchased the camera parts from an Acura internet parts dealer, either Ray Laks or Curry Acura and had my local dealer install it. I also have the directions if you want it. I think it was about $400 for parts and 250 for labor.

$1500 that's a bit steep..... I got mine OEM 06 cameras including all the wires and attachment for $250 + 07+ license plate trim (~$100) so I can keep the trunk release.... installed it myself (free)....

If you have the directions that would be great.

I bought my 06' with the camera already installed. I don't seem to have the touch release nipple, er dimple. So I use the door release or fob. Anyone else missing the dimple?

the standard backup camera installation for the 06 have the trunk release relocated to the side of the trim.... if you don't have it, that means someone skipped a few steps in installation.... but if you do what i did, use the 07+ chrome trunk trim, you can still retain the center trunk release

The usual Acura Internet Dealers like our sponsors, Hansel, Acura of Peoria. Also can find these dealers and others on EBay if you cannot find them otherwise....Curry, Findlay, Troy, etc.

psheu, that licence plate trim/camera sounds like a great idea. Could you provide more info? Is that still available given this is a pretty old thread? Thanks.
