What component in an RL superimposes the yellow lines in the back up camera? I just bought a 2008 RL after my 2005 RL was declared a total loss following a rear end crash. I was glad to notice the 08 has the reverse cam feature but no yellow lines. Can this feature be easily upgraded by installing either hardware or software from a later model?

 

Unfortunately I believe that would require a new camera. Glad you decided to get another RL!

 

why people need yellow line? I mean you can't tell how far away from an object? After all the back up camera was mean to aid your review if any small child is behind your vehicle meanwhile back up sensor is what help you gaging distance from an object to your bumper.

 

As for getting another RL, I figure since the '05 was so terrific at protecting me in that crash, I better stick with a proven product. Besides, I didn't want a car payment; my settlement with my insurance company was $200 less than the $9,300 I paid for the '08 with 67K miles. The '08 was newer by 3 years and had 30K miles less on the odometer...I'll take a deal like that every time!

truonghthe, like any technology, newer features get added. At some point, the original basis for the item/feature becomes so common place it is forgotten. Can't be helped, that's progress!

Over the years, whenever we've rented newer cars, most are equipped with rear backup cameras with these lines to help with backing up and especially parking. Both my wife and I have found them helpful. So, since the '08 has a camera, I thought I'd ask to determine if adding this feature was feasible. If only a newer camera is needed and not some other electronics, I may do more investigating. I'll also go ask the shop foreman at the Acura dealership.
