AC console button light bulb change

One of the AC light bulb buttons is out (windshield and the one under it) on my 2005 RL. The bulb replacement number is 80629s04003 and it cost about 4 bucks. The question is it easy to change on your own? How do you go upon doing it? I'm afraid to ask the dealer because they will rip you off and the bulb is not covered under AcuraCare extended warranty because it has 60k and is considered normal wear. Any help is appreciated.

It will be covered under warranty, just ask about it when you get an oil change/service. I have the same problem and it has been replace twice already! Well, mine was the climate control red/blue button, driver side.

I did ask, the dealer said its only covered under the original warranty which expired but not the Acuracare Extended warranty which I have now since my car has 60k on it.

Interested in changing bulbs as well. Several of my console buttons are out as well.
Where did you get your replacement bulbs?

Same problem here too. It's one of those little problems that I'd hate to have to pay someone to do but it bugs the heck out of me too. I'd appreciate it if someone could chime in with a fix.

Acura really got a raw deal with their bulb supplier-plain poor life expectancy. I just replaced a few bulbs in my overhead console and seat heaters. Will be replacing a couple for the center console soon when my I pick up the new bulbs as I depleted the dealer of their entire stock of 3.

When I lasted asked the dealer about cost, the punk told me $120 to change 1 bulb. I'll wait till someone figures out how to do it so I can do it on my own.

Sounds like you know how to do this, could you enlighten us on the process?

Since the stock bulbs are obviously garbage, can you replace them with LED's?

I had my RL in for the "B" service and asked the dealer to quote me on fixing the bulb that's under the "Auto" and "Dual" buttons. The quote was around $200 but that was for replacing all of the bulbs. It's like replacing the water pump when you are replacing the timing belt, most of the cost is in the labor so you might as well replace all of the bulbs while you're in there. Since the bulbs are only $6 retail at the dealer (each) it would be great if someone could assist with knowledge of the replacement procedure.

If you're still looking for solutions on this, take a look at this thread:

https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-tsx-2004-2008-124/diy-vsa-moonroof-heater-gear-shift-lights-679654/

I know, this is for a TSX, but it brings some hope and shows how to find and remove the bulbs. That is if the RL bulbs are similar to the TSX, which they likely are. So you have to figure out how to take your center console apart to get the switches/buttons out. Then its just a matter of identifying and replacing the bulbs. The first step for me when I did this in my TSX was to take the switch out and locate the bulb to see what kind it is. Hopefully this helps to point you in the right direction.

Been addressed a few times since this thread started for the RL, but thanks.
