2016 map updates...dealer warned me that updating past 2013 causes reduced function?

Anyone have any experience with the 2016 map updates, namely in a 2006 RL? The guy at the dealership said that updating past 2013 reduces functionality, namely in voice commands. Should I find the 2013 update discs or is 2016 ok?

Also, been out of the RL game since selling my 2005 in 2014, but now I'm back after finding a black 2006 Tech with only 73k!

That's a fair question; no, he wasn't recommending buying a new car on the day I was buying this one! It's not so much the maps as it's the updated firmware; mine's never been updated and when I went from 2005 firmware to the one that cam with the 2013 map update I noticed a distinct difference in the speech patterns, like they got a lot smoother. Instead of "climate control, 73, degrees" it went to "climate control 73 degrees"

I think it's a load of . At some point they did away with one of the gender voices, but I wouldn't call that reduced functionality. This is the first I have read about such a claim here.

So I guess what I shouldve asked is: does anyone here already have the 2016 maps? Everything's fine? What a weird scare tactic from the dealership.

Software cannot change the hardware.....
the hardware is the limiting factor here

Doesn't look any different, just more/current Points of Interest and updated maps. Gets me where I want to go, that's all I care about.

remember, the Hardware was created somewhere from 2003-2004. and you will be limited on what the processors(cpu chips) can do.

this is akin to gaming consoles(or even computers). Sure, coders( developers) can tweak settings, but if you have old graphics card or an older system, you wont get the latest and greatest pretty pictures ...

For those of us who await the death of either self or the car before selling it, is there a component that can be changed to fit in the new models' systems?
