2006 Acura RL (Canada) Music Link compatibility

Hi guys, does anyone know if the music link is compatible with the 2006 Acura RL Canadian Model?? the Canadian model does not have the XM radio. Although the music link website http://musiclink.acura.com/Comp_Veh.html shows compatiblity (likely for US models) my local dealer seems to think that it's not compatible with the Canadian models as it not an option for them to order in their parts catalogue.

If anyone can help me out this would be great, as I really hate using an FM transmitter to use my Ipod touch. Perhaps there is a better option? I don't want to spend crazy $$ for the item, and seen that the Music Link can be found for $50 (plus install).

Thanks for your anticipated assistance. (my apologies if I'm posting in the wrong section or anything like that - new user)

You have got to make sure that it connects to the cd changer not the xm radio adapter. For example I just installed the Yatour IPod Adapter. Here's the site: http://www.yatour.net/shop/?type=detail&id=47. Anything that doesn't connect to the cd changer won't work for our cars

Thanks for the response!

I guess my concern is if the Canadian model radio has the connection needed for the Music Link or Yatour to work... apparently the 2006 RL US radio is different model then the Canadian one...

CDN Model of the 2006 RL doesnt have the XM radio - so maybe thats why it wont work??

From other's experience, I wouldn't waste the time on the Music Link. It is probably not in the catalog because Acura is ashamed to have released such a crappy interface. You should be able to get the Dice Mediabridge with CD changer plug-in.

My dealer wasn't aware the product even existed. I went back to parts and lo and behold they had one in stock. Again no knowledge of how it works. The installed price was $350.00 considerably expensive especially considering my video iPod only cost $299.

Well here's the skinny. There is no display of artist genre songs just the same display you would have for a CD changer. It only works with 3rd and 4th generation iPods. And controlling it with voice is truly misleading. First you can't even select CD changer mode by voice. You add a iTunes add in and it searches the music titles and finds the first letter of the song, play list, genre, etc. You have to select the letter immediately after it is read. By the way it’s the Microsoft voice which it is barely intelligible. Then it begins with the first song genre album etc beginning with that letter. The play back through the audio system is phenomenal and you can change selections with CD radio and steering wheel controls.

Well I have 855 items and 20 days of music how useable is that. I've got to tell you how disappointing this is. The solution I‘ve come to is to blow off the audio read backs. I have a older 3rd generation iPod I only download one audio book from audible.com and just a small selection of music and that way I have some control over what I’m listening to.

This really took the shine off buying the new car. Which I've grown accustomed to dealing with Acura dealers. I have gone to the local dealer here in New Orleans with cash in my wallet 6 times in the last 4 years to buy an Acura for either myself of my family only to walk out and buy a different car. I even drove 3 hours to another dealer to experience just a slightly improved customer experience. I have been disappointed with every Acura dealership that I have walked into. I was told I had to buy $2500 worth of trunk trays paint protection locking wheel nuts etc. It wasn’t until I walked out the door was I run down and given the car for the price I wanted. It took 9 hours to install the iPod link and prepare the car for delivery.

Okay enough whining I still love the car there are complex workarounds for the iPod music link and the sound is phenomenal. But if you think your getting “seamless integration” will be sadly disappointed. If I had to do it over again I would buy the monster FM modulated attachment for $75 and buy another iPod with the left over money. If you look at the earlier post showing the installation manual for this kit is at best $20 dollars worth of cables

yeah but it's likely better then the damn FM transmitter crap that I am currently using, in conjunction with the charger.

One simple hard wired product would be fine for me, I don't care if it displays on the Screen or not...

The US one has XM Radio within the radio, we didnt get this till the mid-range refresh. So you must find something that plugs into the cd changer, as long as the product you choose to get has the connectors for the CD Changer your good, although I've heard bad things about the Music Link that why i grabbed another product instead.

Get the GROM usb unit. I believe it plugs to cd changer port behind the radio and reads ur mp3 files from a thumb drive n controls from steering wheel buttons. I would personally place the inlet port to plug the usb drive in the "not an ashtray" and use a 128 GB illuminating thumb drive, would look elegant.

too many damn options, and nothing for certain with the CDN version vehicle.

To be quite honest, I don't even know what the 'plugs' look like to determine if it will fit the back of our CD changer/radio. The dealerships havnt been much help with aftermarket parts and although the Music Link is available through acura.com, Acura Canada has no details on compatibility with CDN vehicles and Acura USA was useless to assist either.

Just wanna get my ipod to play and charge using a hardwire... I guess I'll have to trade up... (NOT)
