Unhappy '06 RL Hands free not connecting

The latest upgrades made my Hands free unusable (for iPhone 5c software v 10.3.3 (14G60).
When I receive a call and push to receive it disconnects or doesn't connect. It forces to receive under the phone only ....

I know Acura is very lame on giving us ABSOLUTELY NO UPGRADES ON SOFTWARE and render this important safety system useless.

Any solution found by anybody that can help ?

Thanks.

1st. You posted this in the wrong section.

2nd. What upgrades?

3rd. Before giving you a solution we have to agree its a problem. You're the only one. I've never heard of this problem before.

Either something's wrong with your pairing, or your phone.

Try another phone to be sure. And make sure the phone is paired.

+1 - it is the upgrade of your phone, nothing is wrong with your car hands-free ... I had the same issue with Nexus 6p, and problem was fixed when Google replaced my Nexus and gave my Pixel XL 128GB for free

Some partial workaround:
I did issue a fresh 'pairing' to make sure... so HFL was recognizing the phone fine, the problem is 'receiving calls, you follow the normal procedure: Push 'Talk' and the call gets engaged received but does NOT come thru the speakers. The calling party can hear you but HFL doesnt engaged although it shows HFL on the car dash.

I found a 'solution' that is clearly showing that neither the hardware, i.e. Car HFL or iPhone is the problem, purely Software.
1) Push Talk to receive the call
2) push a second time Talk
3) Push Back once and now the call is on car speakers as it should.

Awkward and a little annoying but works. Nobody has given this workaround before... to my knowledge.

Shame on Honda/Acura for NOT willing to work it out with Apple... this is NOT new. IOS 10.3.3 has been arround for years.

Note: in that ancestral listing of Acura web site the Rhinos that run the Honda company still do not show Apple as a provider for the RL06, even the dealer told me that it wouldn't work. Yet I have been using it under T-Mobile and previously ATT (never again) for years.

PS: To RL09, this bug of IOS 10.3.3 has been reported at large EVERYWHERE Honda/Acura and Apple, so you are WRONG to comment that I am the ONLY one with this problem. So read around before you make unfounded comments.

WFT are you talking about?

my 06 RL work with all Iphones from Iphone 4, 5s, 7s Plus and 8 Plus. The 7s & 8 Plus has apple latest software from Apple and they perform fine in the RL and both of my TL, I never got any software update from Acura/Honda.

1. You won't find the Apple product as approved device from their website because the RL is from 2006 where the first Iphone didn't get release in late 2007 genius (you are clearly wrong).

2. Your HFL might be on its way out as I was the victim of both HFL units on my TL, the symptom petty clear (in the TL world) slow connecting time to the phone and drop the conversation in during the call before the infamous "booting up" message appear. You won't see such thing for the RL since there are no dedicated HFL status menu in the MID. I am not saying this is your case but it might be on the way out and these unit are expensive AF.

3. I know its sound dumb but have you ever restart your phone and restart the BT on your iphone? Some time the Phone playing dumb telling me my Blackberry gateway is not there meanwhile my other phone can easily pick up that BT device.

Honestly, I was just as confused as everyone else with the point that iOS 10 was causing issues. I switched to iPhone back in June with iOS 10. Never had an issue. I'm on the latest update, I'm occasionally having slow connection times, but nothing obscene. I did google it and find other people reported similar issues. OP, this might help

OP. The HFL in Acura is one of the highest quality out there.

Every-time someone's HFL didn't work, they later found out they did something wrong.

Link us all info next time so we can better help you.

I mean, we have had hfl module failures documented here, so it’s not obscene to entertain the idea that the module might actually be bad

Sure...

But it did seem like people expect Accura to keep updating and mofifying to Ios & android or BB needs....

While its those bozos who have to fix their updates to work devices their clients use.

I have ios 12 (is it 12 now?) and it works fine as always. I did notice if my battery is low, it still says full on my dash, but 1. i dont care, and 2. I'm sure its the IOS sensing lies to my sweet world class ride

My Essentiali PH-1 occasionally disconnects from the RL's HFL. I just live with it. I'm not expecting Acura to update the HFL on my 12 year old car. The issue is that the RL uses a very old bluetooth protocol, whereas modern phones have newer versions. There are bound to be incompatibilities. The only way around this is to never have a car more than 3 years old.

I disagree. and old RL will do fine.

It's the Essential and most probably an Android issue. Try an Iphone to test.

[Update: Fix coming soon] Bluetooth randomly turning itself off on some devices, including the Pixel and Pixel XL

Here's a latest model Jaguar issue from last October. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ess...y-car-t3682944

You may wanna try and tweak the cause that makes it disconnect.

To turn off Bluetooth Scanning:
Settings > Location > Menu (the three vertical dots in the upper right corner) > Scanning > Turn off the toggle for "bluetoothscanning"

Hello,

I have a 2006 RL, My HFl was working with my iphone fine, then one day it stopped, i took it to a shop and the shop said that my HFL was bad, I purrchased one and i am trying to install it, BUT, All of the tutorials seem to be for a "TL" Not "RL", can some one suggest a video or help me to replace the HFL ?

The RL moduel located on the passenger foot well wall, you will have to remove the carpet to gain access.

Have you checked your radio? Originally I had issues with HFL on my 06RL, so I disconnected the HFL module (passenger foot well wall) to prevent a car battery drain. Then few months later my radio froze on HFL, WTF? Even after I disconnected the module... That was the radio's fault, not HFL module. After I replaced the radio electronics (got used radio on eBay), everything started working fine, including HFL. If RL has HFL issue most likely it is a radio not HFL module. TL is a different story.

LMFAO I got 3TL that has HFL shit to bed, after all you get what you pay for is relevant here. $36,000 vs $50,000 product.

It should not be that way, but agree with you. My parents have 09TL with 30,000 miles on it and never used HFL system. It just went bad and killed brand new battery, dealer disconnected the module. No more dead battery issue!
