05 RL IPOD recall

I spoke with my service manager earlier today, and he informed me that Acura wants all Ipods installed in 05 RLs removed due to damages it might and will inflict the wiring system in 05 RL's only.
My MID went blank couple of weeks ago, and as i was informed, its one of the ipod damages. 05 Rls were not supposed to function with the ipod in the first place, and thats why Acura reps kept telling us that ipods will never work with our vehicles.
Anyhow, i'm taking my car back to have the ipod integration removed. those who have them installed, please consult your service manager and i believe a service bulletin up already.
Now, i don't know how in the world you'll have two vehicles manufactured a year appart and one cannot accommodate what the other does

Figures, I go out and buy the thing and install it and now they want to recall it. So are you getting your money back or what? I know my salesman told me repeatedly that they aren't supported in the 05's but I didn't think anything would actually happen.

I didn't pay for it in the first place, Acura wanted to test it on 05 and see how well it'll function, and so they did.
so i didn't pay anything.

I would be surprised if the iPod adaptor could effect the MID. Since the adaptor is only hooked up to the radio, I don't see how that could ever cause a problem with the MID. To my knowledge the MID has not interaction with the radio functions. I suspect this is just one more instance of them guessing at what is causing a problem with the car. I would like to see their technical analysis where they determined that the adapter with the 05 radio is causing the MID to malfunction. I could see it causing a problem with the radio if it really wasn't compatible with the 05 models. My guess is the analysis is something like this. Hum, the MID doesn't seem to be working. Hey, I see this car has an iPod adapter. Let's see the iPod adaper + an 05 model = malfunction with the MID! Let's remove the iPod adapter, install a new MID and then hope by some act of God that the MID doesn't malfunction again.

I will be really pissed if I have to take the adapter out of my car. I have added nearly every option you can from Acrua and I believe the iPod adapter is the best money I have spent.

I am curious if they just had to replace your MID when it went bad or if they had to replace some module that directly interfaces with the radio in order to get your MID to work again. The only place the iPod adapter connects to the car is the radio. The radio does interface with the voice commands but again they don't do anything with the MID.

In any event I will wait for them to contact me before I plan on taking it out. And even then I would probably just re-install it on my own afterward.

I doesn't sound like many people have put this in their car. I would be curious how many have had problems after installing it in their 05 RL's. When I had mine installed they told me that Acura had not tested it and couldn't guantee it would work in the 05 and that if it didn't work I would still have to pay for the install and the unit. I know that it is installed the same on an 05 as the 06.

I will just hope they don't call me wanting to take it out.

Kgd,
my MID incident was way before Acura put up a service bulletin, and my MID wasn't replaced, i just had to turn off the engine and start it backon.
The recall is due to other problems which i didn't inquire about, all my concern is my ride to be damaged because of such a small thing.

BS. Provide a TSB # please. Just had my car in for warranty work Friday in a USA Acura dealership where several recalls were performed, and there was NO mention of this. If this is a posted bulletin I would like to see some solid info. Sorry, but I don't trust word one from stealerships.

Nabbs,
I know what you mean and it didn't make sense to me either but...
two of my climate control background lights went out, my AFH (active front headlight) warning came up this evening, plus my head light bulb was replaced but still flicker. I find all these to be warning signs. thank God i'm switching to 06 next week.

Qatar -- Sorry, not trying to pee in your cheerios What you say just doesn't make sound right. I just don't want to start panic for no reason. It sounds like the dealer wanted to void your warranty and looked to the iPod as a way to do it.

Congrats on the 06!

Salaam!
