'05 RL Headlight Issue

I have read hundreds of threads about the AFS lights issue, and still did not come across the symptoms that I currently have with this car. Got it last weekend and I have this problem plus another one which I have already started another thread which is a possible motor mount failure. (https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...0#post14219900)

Going to the dealership where I bought this car from which is a Lexus dealership about an hour away from where I live.

I did pull up the Acura TSB #06-049 in regards to the AFS lights and the AFS control module needing to be replaced. If this is the problem, the car is out of warranty.. there is a 90 day powertrain warranty on the vehicle. Looks like its either I have to fork out the $$ to get this fixed or see if they could do a "goodwill consideration" in getting this fixed.

The symptoms that I am getting is:

Front passenger light flickers for a few seconds, then shuts off. Driver side is OK, but sometimes it does the flicker show and then shuts off. There was one time I was driving in a county hwy where there are no street lights the headlights completely went black on me. When I switch the lights off and back on everything is back on... then couple minutes later it repeats the problem. The problem occurs the most on the passenger side head lights.

I looked at the system messages and noticed there was a message about the AFS not functioning properly. This message was dated 6 months ago. I do not see the AFS 'yellow' light indicator on my front dash, just a system message on the navi screen.

I read threads that changing the bulb will fix the problem, seen a couple more saying the sensors in the rear driver side wheel well is bad... and some had the entire AFS system replaced. Most of them have some of the symptoms I currently except the AFS light on the dash... mine shows up only in the messages in navigation screen.

Really would like this fixed because it is quite annoying to drive with busted head lights.. especially when I just purchased this car used at a lexus dealership.

Bulb, ballast, or ignitor. Forget about the AFS. That warning can be caused by a low battery and saved in the system until it is cleared. There are multiple threads on how to troubleshoot. Mostly swapping parts from side to side and seeing if the problem follows.

I would say ballast or battery... I agree that AFS isnt the main issue.

Thanks for the feedback. I just dropped off my car at the dealership and they will take a look/fix it at no charge. (not keeping any hopes up) bought the car and in less than 3 days I have issues with the car. Not really happy with this dealership that claims they have done a full inspection on the vehicle and fixed any issues before it sits on their sales floor.

Gave me a lexus ES350 to drive around.. shit drives like a camry. Just want my car back, so I can start enjoying and mod the hell out of it.

It will all come together, if they arent charging you and gave you a loaner that is a blessing on its own.

PS... all it is is a glorified Camry. LoL

I bought it from a Lexus dealer on Dundee road.. Bob Rohrman Lexus in Palatine.

They tried to fix it at the service area but they had to send it next door which was their acura dealership. I guess they told me that there was a old fault code B2130.

The service advisor told me that they will have to replace the AFS control module first then it might need new bulbs, ballast, and ignitor. All this is covered under the Lexus dealership's dime.

Just got a call from them yesterday.. they told me that the control module isnt the fix, they already ordered new ballasts for the headlights. Its already adding up to a $2500 repair bill that the dealership is eating up.

Very suprised how the dealership stand behind their used car sales. I thought I would get the f-you heres the bill type deal. I am happy with their good customer service.

well i hope they stand for what they sell, especially a safety issue like both headlights dying.
(a door trim courtesy light or liscence plate light ain't a big deal, but both headlights in 3 days is a serious issue)

Be glad you'll have brand new bulbs+ballasts+igniters

So far no flicker after the dealership replaced the AFS control module, ballast, ignitor, and bulbs.

I still have the AFS message on my navigation screen. Is there a way I can reset all that without driving back to the dealership?

The problem with a dealer is they would rather overhaul an entire system than find the single issue, but that actually worked to your advantage.

There is a way to delete messages after reading them, but I have only done it once and don't remember off the cuff. Maybe the handy dandy manual has an answer for you.
