Winter weather RL question
Winter weather RL question
Had some icy weather this am due to nasty cold front that is hitting the northeast. While on the way to work, I drove past three accidents, two of them major, with ambulances and the works. Not pretty.
Given the other cars slipping and sliding all over, the car performed beautifully, especially given I did not have snow tires (which I do plan to get for next winter...but I can save the question of which I should get for another post!). There was only one point that my RL started to slip a little on the icey road. However, I was able to regain traction easily by letting off the gas a little.
However, it did get me wondering - I know how to deal with a skid or slip in a "regular" car with front or rear wheel drive. But in the RL with SH-AWD, is there a different strategy or better way to deal with the situation when the car is starting to slip or skid? Will touching the gas pedal a little allow the SH-AWD to add some torque to the wheels to help straighten the car out? How does the SH-AWD and VSA act together in a slipping situation? I know at slow speed on ice, the VSA should be off. Does the SH-AWD change that any?
