Winter weather
Hello. We have an '06 RL and this morning - here in NJ - we had our first snow of any substance. We do not park in a garage, and on the ride in to work this morning we experienced a great deal of shimmy in the wheels causing a lot of vibration. When we got to work we noticed that inside the wheel there were spots with ice on them. After pouring hot water on the wheels, the problem seems to be gone. Anyone else notice this?
I was remembering that movie, My Cousin Vinny, when they talk about mud in your tires. I guess we had ice in our tires.
We also had no washer fluid that worked. I think the design leaves a little to be desired anyway because I think that too much of the line is exposed to the weather, but then we found out that the reservoir was dry. That surprised me as we only have about 10,000 miles on the car and have hardly used the washer fluid. The car does not hold enough fluid in my opinion. Last week the lines actually did freeze up until the sun was up for awhile, and then it worked but not great.

That is winter washer fluid good down to like -20 or so (usually a premix, ready to use that has some kind of alcohol in it, methanol (dangerous-may now be outlawed), isopropanol or ethanol (not the drinking kind))
DO NOT mix real antifreeze (e.g., Prestone) into your washer fluid, unless you want a new paint job.

The vibration was probably due to the ice chunks throwing your wheel balance off. When the ice is gone from your wheels, the vibrations should go as well.

I agree that the winshield washer reservoir is way small in the RL I thought I was the only one who had noticed that. I've had to fill my reservior twice in the last month.

Perhaps you're just using it a lot?

What's worse is that when it gets low, my RL bongs the seatbelt alarm and goes "LOW WASHER FLUID" on the MID every minute or so. It makes me want to scream... there's just NO WAY that washer fluid is important enough for that kind of warning.
That's been a pet peeve of mine since I first got the car. I'm surprised your car wasn't much more annoying in letting you know your washer fluid is low -- I always have to keep a bottle in the trunk because if it runs low, I can't stand to drive the car!

TWO gallons? No way. Can't be. I've never had to refill the wiper fluid reservoir so much in a car.

That's very odd, because we got no warning at all. And this morning, the washers are not working again. The car is clean - NOTHING in the area of wipers. I suspect that this may become a recall issue. Its a safety concern. We've had a big problem on the highway already. We take Rt 80 about 50 miles each way in to work.

washer fluid reservoir
According to the manual, the US model have a 2,5 liter capacity reservoir for washer fluid (2,6 US qt) and the Canadian model have a 6,5 liter capacity (6,9 US qt) one. We (in Canada) waste a lot of fluid with the headlight washer. I wish they could have put a switch for headlight washing...
