Windshield rock chip

Any recommendations on glass repair? Since the chip is less than an inch and on the passenger side, I would like to have it repaired instead of a generic windshield. I repaired a smaller chip on my work van with the $15 suction cup epoxy kit and was happy with the results. This chip is bigger and I am afraid that the cheap kit will not fill the chip clean enough.

Call up your local windshield repair shop. I had mine repaired professionally for about $25 per crack/chip. Safelite will change $60 travel fee on top of the repair cost.

we went thru our insurance company. They covered it as the windshield did not have to be replaced. The glass company filled the small crack. We have a deductible but we did not have to pay and our insurance did not go up. Check with your insurance company.

Thanks all, called insurance and they are sending Safelite on Monday for a free repair. I would have found preferred a local glass shop if was not covered. I have heard that Safelite glass is poor, so hopefully, they can repair it...

I have ten chips in my windshield. I have no idea why this car is such a magnet for flying debris, but in all my life I've never had so much stuff hit me than in any other car I've owned.

I'm hesitant to replace it less it gets whacked again. At this point I'm just waiting until a crack appears.

Got it repaired, I can still see it, but it is unlikely to expand into a crack.

Anyone know how well safelite repairs rock chips? My bad luck had a semi throw a rock to chip right at eye level today, and it's bugging the hell out of me.

I think I've had 3 Safelite epoxy repairs on three different windshields and all held up wonderfully....no crack migrations.

...And my windshield has to be replaced.... Thanks for the input guys! I swung by Acura and they are trying to tell me that the windshield isn't acoustic????? I find it hard to believe that a 50K vehicle doesn't have acoustic glass??

Another vote for the epoxy fix, but you want to have it done very soon after the chip before dirt settles in.

Are they talking about the RL in general, or your specific car? If it is regarding your car, has the windshield ever been replaced? Some folks have had insurance companies replace their windshield with cheaper glass without telling them about the difference.

Safelite uses and epoxy blend which is supposed to prevent any shrinking and issues. Be sure to go through your insurance carrier as pretty much any insurance carrier will pay for chipped glass with no deductible as long as you carry full coverage.
