I had the whine in my 05 RL and they tried just about everything to fix it: new shifter cable, new transmission, new carbon fiber propeller shaft. The whine was still there. I have it in my 2006 RL as well. I believe that it's an operating characteristic of the SH-AWD system as I've heard it in a 2007 MDX that drove as well.

The only other thing I can think that it might be is the fuel pump. The fuel pump makes a buzzing noise that I can hear when the car is running but parked. The reason I think it might be the fuel pump is that the whine occurs when I press on the accelerator between 70-75 mph but stops when I let off the gas. I don't think it's a problem - just a slightly annoying characteristic.

Weird...I don't experience this in either the 06 RL or the 07 MDX

This whine is heard on ALL of my recent Honda purchases:

2005 RL
2005 TSX
2004 Pilot

Not heard on the smaller hondas I've owned:
1996 Integra
1992 Civic DX

I suspect it's a design characteristic of the newer built honda motors....

On the link that Bob posted, I mentioned that it may be electronic. Well, I was wrong, I now have the exact whine that you guys have but it only occured after about 60k miles. It will be high on my list during my next visit and it will be interesting to know if they have ever heard about it. I find it amazing that some dealers know about it and some don't. Acura sends memos out to service managers, maybe they don't read them or distribute them to the techs.

I will bet it is the bearings on the drive shaft.

Starting having my whining problem around 60k miles after I got the car back from the dealership after the 60k tune up. Drove around hoping it would go away. Now I am at 97,000 miles and it has gotten worse. Took my car into the dealership and after 3 attempts, they finally found the problem and ordered me a new differential. Thank goodness for extended warranty.

Did they actually find the problem or are they guessing? I still have my whine and the dealer changed the drive shaft and bearings so that was not the problem. Let us know if it fixes it please.
