What's a good price for a 2005 RL?

Has a very high 124k highway mileage and AFS light on. Other than that, the car is clean. Seller told me that Acura will be issuing a recall as part of the AFS problem in a couple of months, any ideas?

Why do you say that? Aren't these cars pretty reliable? Thanks.

Thanks. Do you happen to know anything about the AFS light problem? Seller says Acura will issue a recall but I haven't heard anything about that.

no im not familiar with the problem whatsoever.

on the other hand I highly recommend this car. I had it for about 3 months and it has been great. I came from a 04TL. So I hardly know anything about this car. Still learning

^^^^^

As for the AFS problem, it's been documented elsewhere in 2005 RLs:

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2005-2012-76/afs-light-dealer-had-car-2-days-now-498831/
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2005-2012-76/i-should-have-done-more-research-501408/

Acura gave a detailed explanation for potential reasons the AFS light might come on in the August Service Bulletin. Since you have a 2005 RL, you should read the "RL with Technology package" paragraph; the 2005 RL is the equivalent of the 2006 base or 2007+ "tech package".

Anyway, here's THAT link--click.

HTH!

Call Acura and ask them some people will say ANYTHING to get rid of there problem!

Also do a search of 2005RL's with that kinda milage search cars.com and autotrader within 500 miles of you to see what people are asking for cars with that kinda miles.. 10k - 12K sounds good 13K sounds OK
Do a search and see if any warrenty companies will take it on with it having such high miles , u dont wanna have a car with so many gadgets and it not being in warrenty!

This is a pretty high mileage car. I am guessing the timing belt has NOT been changed also. I would be careful.

The seller doesn't have a timing belt change record, only regular maintenance. Is there any way of knowing if the belt's been changed by looking under the hood such as a sticker?

The seller agreed to sell it for $12500.

Not a bad price for that mileage. We have one person here with a 200k+ mile 2005 RL and he's had relatively few problems with the car, so don't worry too much.

$35,000. The car is priceless.....That way my 2005 RL with 63,000 is worth $50,000

Actually, I'd say $10K-$15K. Did the person get the 100K tuneup, new timing belt, brakes, etc.... If not, low ball the number since that will cost up to $2,000.

Did you tell him the RL is not made by Boeing? And here I thought 124k was high.

When did he get the timing belt done, do you know? If I have to spend 1k to switch out the timing belt the total cost will be around $13500. Is that still a fair price?

He bought it brand new and had driven it 205k miles the last we heard of him.

Here's the pertinent thread--click which also indicates that he changed the timing belt at about 130k miles.

Damn that's a good price. I'm personally not afraid of mileage as long as the car's been taken care of. Get the timing belt done right away, I wouldn't risk it.

Yeah i wouldnt be afraid of the engin or trans but.. The SHAWD system is still very new and expensive to fix .. and the nav/climate/radio is Very expensive to replace if anythind there goes bad..and the 2005 are known for there AC going out!

Yikes! What's the problem with the AC? Is it expensive to fix? The seller has a bunch of maintenance records, but alas, no record of timing belt service.

AC problem is well documented and there is a TSB out on it. It's due to a bad field coil, not the entire compressor.

No timing belt service on the car means he didn't take care of it properly. Check the air filter to see how dirty it is for another clue of how the car has been cared for.

I'm assuming he's replaced the tires and brakes??

Haven't heard many problems with the SH-AWD system.

Personaly, I would walk away from the deal. The timing belt not being changed is a red flag.

You may never see a better buyers market, so take advantage of it. Decide how much you can afford and shop around for an RL with lower mileage with no pending issues.
