What Would You Buy?
There are two RLs that I am looking at and will explain below. This will be my first Acura purchase and I am brand new to the site. Thank you all in advance.
2005 RL
124k miles
$10995
Spoiler
Upgraded Rims
Meteor Silver Metallic/Ebony
Very nice interior
2006 RL
65k miles
$15995
Looks to be stock wheels
Silver/Taupe
Very nice interior, just not a fan of the color
I have driven an 06 RL and it drove nice, even having 140k miles. I just did not want to spend the $11900 for the mileage, and other things were somewhat messed up as well.
What do you all think of the pricing and/or these models?
Thanks,
David

In general, I'd take the newer, lower mileage one. There a few on autotrader for sale with over 200k miles on the clock.
In this case, I would take the one with full service records and possibly avoid the 2006 if it has the PAX wheels, unless you are planning on upgrading the wheels.

Get the 06 down to 14 and buy it! I think the 05 is too high with that mileage....unless there are a stack of receipts showing all work. 05s have been prone to many issues, 06 and on better sorted.

Agreed, try to get the 06 for 14k, so you don't have to spend much on maintenance.

I was thinking the same thing. I will check them both out tomorrow. Thank you for all the input. If I can get the dealer down to $14k that would be very nice. That would still be about $15k after taxes and such.

I ended up buying the 2006 RL. it is a pretty sweet ride. I was surprised I like the silver exterior and the taupe interior. Definitely an upgrade to the 06 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V with everything except the gas mileage..haha.

Good choice, did it come with a spare tire?

Enjoy the car. Take it on a long hwy cruise, and you might feel better about the MPG.

Plan on it
I have read that at 50 mph or so it may go between 4th and 5th or something like that. I put it in manual mode and kept it in 5th when I could. Seems to be going up. Definitely need a longer Highway drive.

5th kicks in at about 45 mph. won't go back to 4th until about 37 mph. Accelerating faster or a hill climb will push the time it kicks into 5th higher. The key to good mileage for the RL is to get into 5th as quick as possibl and keep it there, staying at or below 2k rpms.

I have been using manual mode and getting into 5th when I can. I haven't filled the tank as of yet, probably tonight or tomorrow. I'll baby it for a bit to squeeze as much MPGs that I can initially. I really don't want to see high teens. I think I will see maybe low 20s driving like that, but we'll see. I need a road trip. Haha

I've found on both our MDX and our former RL that using the paddles does not get best MPGs. The best MPGs come from activating cruise control on long HWY drives like many have said. Good luck OP and congrats.

MPGs/CC/Manual Mode
I will be doing that as well. I guess that does make sense. I have not been able to use the CC too much or for too long. I do know that this car is fun to drive.

If your overall driving is 50% hwy or above, you will see low teens very often. If your driving is any significant city or heavy traffic driving and you don't want to see teens, you bought the wrong car.
The RL weighs 4,060 lbs IIRC. It takes a lot of energy to get it moving. It doesn't take much to keep it moving though.

I'm in the high teens now so far, but it is steadily climbing. I'm rarely in stop and go traffic. My 2012 Explorer gets around 20mpg combined and it's around 5000 lbs. It's all good, I didn't buy this RL for the gas mileage, though you'd think the range would be more accurate. (16-24mpg, or 18-26mpg).

also vote for getting the '06 down as far as possible and buying it

I have an 08 RL with 140K and I have only done oil changes and a timing belt ( and tires of course ). It's a great car and a keeper for sure.

What helps on highway is Manual Mode shift, leave in top gear.
Stops it from those 5->4 downshifts when engine has plenty of torque. Get ya 1-2MPG better on rolly hills.
