Yes, you need to drop the bumper to install the AEM CAI. That's an easy task, however. I also took out the fender liner (also quite easy).

There's a thread in here somewhere in which I reveal the amazing, custom bracket used for application of the AEM in an RL.

Ballinger- u think the AEM made more power at all? Or just noise?

U removed fender liner? And left it off for good? How hard is it to take off bumper?

^^Its simple, just remove liner over the radiator support, remove the push clips from the top and bottom of the bumper and two screws right by the tire where the end of the bumper meets the fender. Takes me about 5 minutes to take the bumper off.

I'm sure the AEM made "some" power but not much. Maybe 4-5whp

noise maker = good

UR pulley did nothing for me, maybe it's cause the intake is eating all that power.

Yea anytime you reduce rotational mass (i.e lighter wheels, lighter pulleys, lightweight flywheel) the engine will perform with less effort and put more power down.

Might be off topic. I just purchased a K&N Cold air intake for a 04+ TL and will be using only the short ram section of the intake. Does anyone know how or where to connect the two other hoses that go into the intake? I see one of them connect but how about the other one below it? I believe tlmaster1 did this, but he said its a perfect fit?

Short ram is shorter and less restrictive than the stock intake. That should yield some gains, and is not purely for sound. No arguing that CAI is going to show more power. Cold air is more dense than warm air and allows for better combustion.

bottom line is, get some manners and think before you speak.
037, there are a shitload of companies that show dyno graphs with significant gains from their products. I'm sure we can all agree that these tests are recorded in the optimal conditions at the very least, and probably with embellishments (in many cases). Just look at all the companies that make chips for the 2G RL...

i'd take any manufacturers dyno graph with a grain of salt... dynos can be manipulated - and if the person who published the dyno chart is trying to sell you something - c'mon... do you think Takeda or AEM woudl say "buy our intake, it doesn't make any power but it sure sounds cool!"....

I'd put a LOT more stock in a customer's before/after dyno charts....

in the end, all that matters is whether you like it, and what your butt dyno says. who cars if the dyno says it makes 10hp if you can't feel it....

I'd rather have a dyno says it made zero power - but have my BUTT sense more power...

if you read my personal posts, I've already stated that I felt no more increase after adding UR pulley and Takeda intake. Small gains would be hard to "feel" either way.

As far as chips, their claims are so outrageous and prices so cheap...it's kind of obvious.

I bought one off ebay just to open it up and post photos...and it was 2 wires in a plastic box with a resistor. Does it do anything? maybe, but not worth installing it on an expensive car.

S/c

the only sure way to make a bunch of power on our cars would be to go force induction.

there was that one guy who did a S/C install... but it was NOT cheap..and I've not heard back from that guy...wonder how his system is holding up????

we could always tear the car apart and get rid of extra weight. That'd make it into NSX pretty fast...

TL guys are doing s/c and turbo, those should be almost plug n play for our cars too.

Then again, we're driving a luxury car that is already faster than the cars in it's price range (528ix, E350 4 matic) but not faster than M37x.

So, technically, we're not missing much.

My example wasn't intended to open up a dialogue about the validity of individual products. It was to point out how silly it would be to take the claims of a manufacturer as gospel. In the same spirit; I would not look to studies funded by Big Tobacco for accurate info on the health effects of tobacco use.

sounds like we should trust no one. The 5 year bumper to bumper Honda warranty is really a plot to take over the world.

I think I'm done with the conspiracy theories.

Darnit looks like I'm stuck with a brand new K&N CAI for a 04+ Acura TL. Sensor hole don't line up. Anyone knows how much I can sell it for?

That's your choice. I'll just use common sense to navigate my way through life; but I do realize some people need to see black and white to avoid having to use their brains. Good luck with that!
