Question What "RL" stands for?

I'm just curious what different acronyms Acura uses to name the cars mean? If anything. Anybody has a decent idea?

I don't think there's anything official, but based on what people have speculated:

RSX = Racing Sport eXperimental
TSX = Touring Sport eXperimental
TL = Touring Luxury
RL = Refined Luxury
NSX = ??

From money.cnn.com ( http://money.cnn.com/2004/09/07/pf/a...oder/index.htm ):

"Acura

Acura's two- and three-letter combinations mean absolutely nothing. They're just completely made-up combinations of letters.

One exception that rule -- or lack of one -- predates Acura's overall move to letters. When the Acura NSX sports car was in development in the 1980s that name stood for New Sports Experimental. "

This is what I've read on several websites, edmunds, forbes etc. The only other believeable names for me are:

"I had an old Acura brochure that stated RL= Road Luxury, TL= Touring Luxury, CL=Coupe Luxury"

I've also heard:

TSX=Touring Sport Experimental/Crossover
RSX=Road Sport Experimental/Crossover

It's actually an '05. I paid a little over $50K with the ASPEC suspension (and alignment), full body kit, 18" wheels w/ Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires + wood wheel all installed....not including tax and license.

Is the A-SPec really worth it. I know it makes the cars suspension a little firmer, 18", but is the car really sportier and what benifits do you get, other than your cars look(which is great).

I personally would not own an RL without the ASPEC suspension...It hugs the road better & not much firmer in the ride dept + the addition of the 18" and a quality tire completes the package (Pirelli's). The OEM 18" Michelins were not a good tire for me...too much tram-lining. The approx 1" drop w/the ASPEC gives an aggressive look too. Just because it's a 4 X 4 doesn't mean it has to look like one. It's too bad there aren't many aftermarket suspension options out there right now for the RL.

Suspension is one of the first upgrades I do to a car. In my '05 NSX, I did an adjustable perch Bilstein strut set-up that lowered the car 1" - it made a big difference in both handling and looks!

Yup - Road Luxury. Kind of a silly name... just call it 'RL' instead!

CL - Contemporary Luxury

Just came from the dealer. THe only thing that the A-spec do for an RL, is put badges, wheels+tires, body kit. No suspension yet for a A-spec. THey said they might have one for the '07 RL. Are you sure this is not aftermarket suspension?

Get a new dealer.........vendors on E-bay also sell the suspension. It's an Acura product. Sheesh!

Wow, serious lack of clue going on there. I wouldn't do business with any dealship that was that worthless about their own products. My salesman knew absolutely everything about the car and every single factory add-on, after market add-on etc that you could get for it. Here is a link to an actual dealership selling them if the ebay link doesn't make you a believer -- http://www.acuraparts247.com/sp_srch...pec+Suspension

Ok. Well that's what the dealer told me in Brooklyn. I guess he was wrong. But why so much ($600) for suspension. Is this with the installation and guarantee with the cars warranty.

To my knowledge RL stands for nothing official. I've seen "refined luxury" thrown about.

TL does officially stand for touring luxury. It was all over the 1st generation TL brochures.
