What next? After the RL...
I think a nice CPO 07 LS460 in another couple years for me. (Must get V8 for next car, with mpg being just as good) The price would be a little more reasonable by then, for me, with under 50k miles and a nice 3 year bumper to bumper warranty with it
Depending on the all new 3G RL in 2010 I'd say that'd be the car I would look to get into next, although my allegence does indeed lie with the A.
How about the rest of you RL owners? And if your choice is another Acura, what Acura model, and also... What OTHER car would you seriously consider getting into for a couple years or so?

Everybody knows my answer: Caddy 2G CTS-V (if GM manages to survive another year or two....).
I'll consider a 3G RL if the specs and visual design are right, though.

Yeah, I've never had this feeling like I do when drivng my RL. It really is a pleasure and a n honor to be able to walk up to it and actually be like "this is mine". It's a great car in the sense I am always excited to drive it, and actually trying the hardest not to just get in and drive around aimlessly because I love being in it!
With that said... I have a pattern of not keeping a car longer than 2-3 years without moving on to another car. However, with the RL, it'll be AT LEAST another 3-4 years before simply getting rid of it. That actually sounds really bad to say right now. Anyway, by the time that comes around it is very well possible the 3G RL is a real possibility... The TSX just got nearly the same amount of HP as it so therefore the 3G RL will NEED and HAVE to be a BEAST! Obviously when the prices spike and the car is brand new they'll be absolutely ZERO chance of me driving it right away. I'll need to either A- lease it, which would be ok I guess but I'm limited on miles and it's leased, so therefore it's tough to keep if I really like it.... Or B- and buy it after it's been out for a bit and the price drops, which is the best bet I think. That way I could pick it up CPO for a good price in 2012/2013 when it's been out for 2-3 years..... However, if the 2011 RL is really just THAT unbelievable and amazing, which would in turn keep the price up high, the 07 or 08 LS460 would be a better bet, I think, in 2012ish.
I don't see myself driving a Benz or a BMW, not yet anyway... Seems like it's just too stererotypical and heck, I'll prob end up in one of em later in life but not for the forseeable future. I think it boils down to the A symbol or the L symbol for me. Both of them make interiors that I just absolutely love, among other things. I mean it's a by product of Honda and Toyota after all, two brands with great image and reliability... But for people like me who are a little car snobbish, they have L for Toyota and of course A for Honda!
I know I need to improve power big time going from this RL, which is pretty good as is, so definitely need at least 350hp or so..

^ haha, nice. Yeah, I'd squeeze Audi into my choices over BMW or Benz. So Acura, Lexus, or Audi.. No Infiniti.
My only concern with Audi is reliability and whatnot, expensive repairs, so it'd almost have to be lease unless they have a good CPO warranty.

I hear ya. I previously owned a 2000 VW Passat (poor mans Audi A4) until I totalled it and replaced it with a 2005 TL. Never had any problems with it during my ownership other than a steering rack issue which was handled under warranty. I may have just lucked out though.

I don't hear anyone saying Genesis

Chuckle.
I drove an 02 or 03 E55 AMG and that would be about the best car I could imagine for a daily driver. 469 HP Supercharged V8 4 door that rides great at cruising speeds but is no slouch when it comes to cornering at speed. Even a used one is out of my price range though.
Ive never owned a BMW but if its truly a drivers car as most of the magazine publications seem to claim then I want to see what all the hub bub is about.

That's why I consider get E 63 or S 550 in the next 2 or 3 years. Unless 3rd gen RL attract me more.

Nope. The 2009 RL is a MMC (Mid-Model Change) to tweak the car's features and appearance for better sales. The 3G RL should be coming out in MY 2010 or 2011 (calendar year 2009 or 2010). We've heard nothing about the 3G RL this far into the auto show cycle...if we don't hear anything by the New York Auto Show (mid-April), we won't hear anything until next year.
Audi A5=sex
Too soft for my tastes, though the design is appealing. If they offer an A-Spec like package that adds road feel and reduces floatiness, then I'd consider it.

I was joking about the Genesis. I'm hoping the 3G RL is 2010. I'm at 88K on my '05 and will want to replace it fairly soon. Don't want to buy something else without knowing what the 3G RL is. At this point, I'm not sure what else I would look at. I'm not a fan of Lexus styling. With all due respect to Bob, cannot think of getting in a Caddy.

I'm really hoping that the 3rd gen RL is as good as I keep thinking it HAS to be. I've only had my 05 for 6 months and I'm absolutely in love with it. It's gotten to the point where I offer to drive almost everywhere just so that I can drive it around. I'll have this one for a few more years at the least and when the time comes to pick up a new ride, the '10\'11 RL will have to be in the running, if for nothing else the experience that I've had with mine so far. If I had to go away from Acura though, I think I'd have to go with a Lexus. No idea where in their line I'd go, but Lexus makes a beautiful car. My final choices came down to the '04 CTS-V and the RL. Unfortunately, the police around my highways here seem to discourage the kind of fun that the Caddy was offering to me, though I haven't regretted my decision once since the purchase!

No Syundai for me, oh Hyundai, sorry. I can't be havin that badge on my car and on my key/fob or whatever they use.. Call me a car snob if ya want, cuz that's what I am. Sorry witty, crafty, clever voice-over guy in the commercials, but I'll stick with the "other" guys.
Hmm.. that S550 would be pretty tempting if the price came down a bit over the next couple years. But I dunno. Like I said before my priorities lie with Acura, and I do suspect the 2011 RL is really gonna have to step it up in a HUGE way. Remember the 1G RL? I would never think twice about that piece of garbage, but when the 05 RL debuted.. I was simply BLOWN AWAY. I remember taking my 03 TL for service and heading right over to the showroom to hop inside the RL. I was in heaven sitting inside it for a few minutes, imagining what it would be like. I'd get out and just stare at it for what seemed like forever until my service guy came over and broke me out of my trance. THIS is what I expect to happen when the 3G of it comes out. I expect to be bringing my 06 RL in for service, and yup, doing the same thing when that stunning, beatiful, elegant, powerful, sexy 2011 RL is sitting over in the showroom just teasing me. I think Acura knows what is up now, and they won't be pulling any crap by throwing an ugly ass grille on it or doing some weird ass things to it. I think the grille would be more of the TSX style, but just perfectly positioned in the center. (Much like those pics we've seen that is a computer image)
But if not... Well, I will be very surprised. But, after I stop being stunned that I might have to drop Acura for a couple years and move in another direction, at least for the short term, I'll have fun driving a new luxury brand for a little while. Which like I said before, seems like an LS 460, but who knows. I'm always keeping my eye out cuz I wanna be prepared way ahead of time, years ahead of time, just like I was when I got my RL.

CPO S6 or S8, Would love a CLS550 if they offered 4matic, alas not yet.
New Rl if it has some style, not the shield. The Rl is rock solid, but I have had a couple issues like the emissions warning light, and the injectors replaced. Waaaay better than my x-type sport. Allthough even the much maligned Jag, felt a little more sporty.
XF 5.0l 385hp AWD? i doubt it.

Cool thread!
Hmmmm...I've been putting off thinking about this, now that my 401(k) has become a 201(k). Also, my sweet '06 RL is only up to 39,500 miles on a 100K extended warranty. So I've got some time, probably at least 3 more years. I know three things for sure:
1. I had already decided that the '06 would be my last conventional internal-combustion car. So I'm thinking hybrid or even fuel-cell. (2011 Acura Clarity??? Woo-hoo!)
2. Five-star safety and reasonable size are essential since I drive 65 miles every day, accompanied on the freeway by homicidal maniacs in duallie extended-cab pickups and monster SUVs.
3. My next car will be carbon gray. No more black. Too high maintenance.
Oh! We were supposed to talk makes and models?? Ooops. Well guys, I think most of us agree that Acura has fallen off a cliff stylewise. If the next RL looks anything like the '09 or especially the butt-ugly TL, forget it.
Lexus makes some very pretty Toyotas, some of which are hybrids. Maybe the GS? (The ES is a Camry; the LS is too uppity for my workplace.) But with any Lexus, the price tag is a killer. And the nanny-navi would drive me nuts--I like setting destinations on the fly.
BMW is a dime a dozen in SoCal. Plus the only decent looking ones are the 3-series and they are too little for me.
Audi is sort of edgy and reliability has improved, but that grille...yuk. And not even a hint of hybrid there.
Infiniti? Never again. Mercedes? Nope. Hyundai?

I decided to go with the carbon gray at the last minute over black, since my 03 TL is a pain in the ass to keep looking nice, even though I absolutely love a gleaming, shiny, mirror like, wet looking black car.
I do however like the Audi front, especially the higher price tag models, that show off a waffle like type fat ass grille. The only thing is the stupid mandatory front license plate here ruins it! There shouldn't be a shitty license plate in the middle of a cars damn grille.
You'll be happy with carbon gray when the time comes though.. I wasn't sure at first, I mean I knew I liked it enough to buy the friggin color, but after driving it in all different kinds of conditions of light it really looks nice.. almost black, but without the extreme high maintanence..
Also.. why Infiniti "never again"? I'm not a fan, but seems like you've had a poor owning experience..... btw, is it me or does the new m35/45 look WORSE except for the inside? They actually made it look smaller and too rounded on the edges, it looks much more of an old person car now... to me.
edit: oh yeah, safety and those kinda things are big for me... which makes the RL an even better choice.

I WOULD NOT OWN ONE UNLESS IT'S COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, ITS STUPID HOW MUCH THOSE CARS COST TO FIX.

Me too. I the M45's sound and look, especially with optional 19s. The powerful V8 is not really Acura's thing to do, though....they were among the early comers with V6s with the same power as V8s....

I bought my RL because of the Acura Service I got while driving my 1998 CL.
I bought my CL used, and got the 7/100,000 warranty. Acura treated me extremely well if I ever had any problems, even for a used car. Something I wont forget. A friend of mine has a GMC Denali, and doesnt get HALF the service I do when he has problems.
I'm all about customer service, and if Acura takes care of me if I have any probs with my RL, I'll ABSOLUTELY by ANOTHER Acura after the RL.
Dedicated till I get screwed.
