What needs to be done for 105k Maintenance?
What needs to be done for 105k Maintenance?
From reading various threads I gather that the following should be replaced:
Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner
Drive Belt
Drive Belt Adjuster
Water Pump
Side Engine Mount (Probably will be bad, various other ones too)
Transmission Mount (Might need to be replaced)
Do I need to do valve adjustment, if so how much will it cost?
I have already done the following:
Transmission Fluid Change
Differential Fluid Change
Transfer Fluid Change
Oil Change

I recently completed my 105k tuneup on my RL. Was quoted $1300--$1500(replacing spark plugs) at the Acura dealership. Instead i just order the parts from AcuraOEMparts.com (5% off if you mention your a acurazine memeber) ($450) and had my local Honda technician doing the labor for $240. About half the price of stealership!

wow, under $1000 is good for that work. Don't look for a broke mount if there isn't one. But timing belt and plugs are due. Just over a grand, I just did it on my Honda Pilot (same engine). I am keeping the car, so it's worth it. Sucks, but worth it. All those other parts are normal to replace with a timing belt job. All the belts should be replaced.
My local shop (Exclusive Acura) quoted me $810 for these things, this guy has to be one of the most honest guys in town. Told me he only ever had to do the valve adjustment on a J series engine once and it was because the CEL had come on and two of the valves ended up being tight, he said he wouldn't do it but if he did it would be about $300...the Acura Dealer quoted me $500 for the valve adjustment and $1000 for what is listed below.

I didn't go with the dealer as I felt like I didnt trust them, instead I went with a trusted Honda/Acura mechanic in my town and here is what I got.
Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner
Drive Belt
Water Pump
Coolant
Side Engine Mount
Spark Plugs
Installed my Lightweight Crank Pulley
Cost me $1250

While you are changing out water pumps and coolants, it is usually a safe practice to replace the upper and lower radiator hoses and the radiator cap.
My wife used to own a 1994 4Runner 3.Slow. We had the power steering pump, water pump, and both radiator hoses replaced. A month later while trying to road trip to the beach we cracked a cylinder because the radiator cap was bad and the engine overheated. $800 in repairs down the drain because a $7 part wasn't replaced. A radiator cap should be changed every 5-7 years.

Oh thanks forgot to say they replaced the radiator cap and said they checked the hoses and they looked good, that was included in the 1250 I mentioned. Did I get a decent deal considering the motor mount and sparkplugs?
My MID just popped up that I need a A15 service. I'm a bit confused, as the "5" indicted that the engine coolant needs to be replace, but during the 105k maintenances the coolant was replace with the install of the new waterpump. Why would the MID request such a early change (less then 8k)? Should I just skip and do only the oil change?
Doing mine tomorrow night. I am inspecting my cam and crank seals. No leaks, no change. Using a Gates kit for 175 and another 70 for the iridium plugs. Already have the crank holding tool. Does not look too bad, no worse than the last Integra I did... Not planning on screwing with my valve lash as they are not making any noise.

The "same motor" that you keep referring to is about 50HP less than the RL among other things. The Honda 3.5 comes in many iterations and the differences should be noted when changing components and doing maintenance.
As I understand it, the basic block and most of the major components are the same, they even use the same oil filter. My Honda mechanic confirmed this. I made the "same motor" comment because I was referring to a different car and many users may not know that the motors are very similar. Otherwise, my comment might not apply to our cars. The motor in my Pilot has less power overall, but more torque, at least it feels like it. a smoother powerband with the power down low, whereas in the RL you have to rev it to see the power.
