what do you think of my new hood?

So I got the car back from the shop, after 5 weeks of waiting. This is what I get. What do you think?

seems like there is uneven paint with white spots. There are also many micro scratches.... I am heading back to the shop for repaint for sure.

I'd say your paint work wasn't done well. It really looks fogged in these pictures, and doesn't seem to match the part under the bra.

And BTW, that's about the most obvious-looking clear bra I've seen. (No offense intended.) Is that a byproduct of the other issue? I.e., did the body work affect the edge on the bra, or was the bra actually applied after the body work? Seems like it shouldn't be so obvious.

the bra was applied after the bodywork was done. I am not sure why it's so obvious from the photos. But the hood does look a little foggy...

At first I thought those spots were perhaps the clouds reflection, but I guess not. I would mention it to the shop that you are not happy and see what they can do. Good idea to clear-bra though.

the clear bra isn't so obvious in person. I think it's the angle the camera was positioned relative to the car. If you look at the photos the driver's side clear bra isn't so obvious. It's gotta be a combination of different things. But if the hood needs to be repainted there will be a new bra installed.

That would not do for me...that's clearly flawed. Looks very blotchy. Take it back, show them, see what they have to say.

I agree with the rest of the guys. Take it back and have the shop foreman look at it. They definitly didn't spray the paint on your hood right. I've seen the same results on some GM white pearl paint jobs. Caddys and Buicks mostly.

ok, just got back from the bodyshop. Talked to my repair manager and he called it "paint mottling." How it happened he didn't know, but he definitely wanted to repaint the hood. So the car is going back tomorrow morning, and they are paying for the rental car.

Make sure they prep it really, really well -- putting yet another shot of paint on top of a poor finish can cause it to come through the good paint -- even months later.

A few years ago I had an Alfa that had been in an explosion (don't ask...) and I got it cheap from a dealer. The dealer re-sprayed the car to deal with the damage, and did a crappy job of surface prep. It was mottled, looked similar to your car. He re-sprayed it -- and the mottle came back about a year later. No amount of polishing would get rid of it....

Make sure you have a good warranty on the re-spray. If it isn't flawless, make them re-do it until it is.
