Took my 2006 RL to the dealer because something wasn't right with the shifting in the transmission. Thought I had a bad motor mount, but turned out to be old transmission fluid (was told it had been changed, NOT). Had a level 3 flush, which is 10 quarts of Honda trans fluid run through it...purrs like new now!
Also had the brake fluid changed because that fluid was nasty and now have nice tight braking.
While waiting, ordered a new key fob case cover from eBay, $30

I was a little skeptical at first that a trans flush would make that big of a difference, but it did. Watching as the did it, they lift the car off the ground about 3 ft, hook up the line to fill it, open the drain (I'm simplifying it), start the car, put it into gear and all 4 wheels are spinning.

No modifications needed. One thing to note when installing the LED fogs is if it doesn't work the first time, flip the connector around and plug it in. Mine didn't work and then I realize mine is plugged in the wrong direction as LEDs will only allow current to flow in one direction.

That rearview mirror screen looks really busy - can you still use it as a normal rearview mirror while you're driving? Or is it always on, and you have to adjust your near/far vision to see which one which?
Yes, when you turn it off, it is a regular mirror. When it is on you can chose front cam, back cam or split with both or you can just look "thru" the app to see what is happening behind you. I love it so far and it also adds lane departure/accident avoidance to the car as well....
After browsing the forums again it's motivated me to take care of some seriously past due maintenance and repairs on my neglected RL.
Maintenance List
1. Timing Belt (~25k miles past due)
2. Shocks (tire shop said they need to be replaced because they're causing the tires to cup)
3. Front Rotors (these have been warped for several months)
4. Air Filters
5. Headlights (I sanded, buffed and clear coated the passenger side last year and it's held up pretty well. I also purchased some Osram CBI's a few years ago, but never installed them.)
Repair List
1. Drivers side window doesn't roll up or down.
2. Rear drivers side door only locks/unlocks manually.
3. Passenger side rear door sometimes doesn't automatically lock/unlock.
4. Replace several burnt out bulbs in center stack.
5. Replace both drivers side and center arm rests. (My girlfriend bought me the replacement center arm rest cover off of ebay, but I think it's for a taupe interior while mine might be parchment)
6. Replace passenger side fog light (cracked glass)
This past weekend I replaced the front rotors with Stoptech cryo treated slotted rotors. I've had these rotors on my 1st gen CL for several years and have been pretty happy with them. The only mishap was breaking one of the bolts on the brake line bracket.
The intake filter was replaced around this time last year. It's wasn't too bad, but the cabin air filter has never been replaced in the ~8 years that I've owned the car.
There's still a lot of work to do, but at least I've started.
Not too hard if you've done it before on other cars. The hardest part was aligning the tab on the strut with the slot on the fork. You have to be precise before assembly, otherwise you'll have to muscle it into position after the spring is installed on the strut.
I have been getting the P1717 error, check airbag, blinking D light, etc. forever. It happens and then goes away, only to pop back up whenever I shift from park to drive on a warm day or on a restart after a short drive. I bought the TRS from RockAuto about 3 months ago for $57 and finally decided to install it this past Sunday but after taking the tire off and finding it harder to access than on the TL, I figured I would take it to a mechanic. All the mechanics I called were either booked out for 2 weeks or would not install an owner purchased part. (ridiculous), so I called the nearest Acura dealership. They were able to fit me in that day and would give me the cost when i arrived. That did not sit well with me so I called back and spoke to another service adviser. Price for install $579, $379 if I purchased the part from Acura. Incredible. Cancelled the appointment. Remembered an old family friend who luckily still had a garage who could fit me in the same day. He said it was a beast to get off but was able to install the new switch. For $180. Car is running great with no more check engine lights. I see why dealer service departments are called the "Stealership"

Any issues with the carbon fiber driveshaft? I intend to keep the RL for a few years at least but the only thing that concerns me is the driveshaft.
Zero issue for me. I hope God continues to bless me with no issues with this car...About to wash, wax and winterize it now...
Speaking of wax, I used Nu Finish for the first time and the luster doesn't quite compare to Turtle Wax polishing compound. The Turtle Wax isn't a sealant or wax but it seem to enhance the color of the paint more than Nu Finish.

Centric rotors are pretty decent for the price but I have no experience with raybestos pads. How would you rate them?
I've been using Akebono ProACT pads on my other cars throughout the years and I give rate them 4 our of 5 stars.
I use Akebono brake pads for the front and they work very well! The rear pads tend to last longer as most of the stopping power is up front, so I went w/ the Raybestos pads that were on sale on RockAuto. They work fine. Get ceramics!
The starter acting up, turn the knob and nothing happens (no click). Turn another time the car start right up, typical bad starter, I pick up a Denso unit from Rock Auto and have the dealer installed.
Needless to say she start up faster than the old one used to be, car currently sit at 140k miles. I don't drive the RL that often any more lol.

I always use aftermarket ceramics on my cars, however I once tried a cheap semi-metallic from rockauto and it was pretty bad. Noisy, scratchy and lacked stopping power compared to ceramic. But when the RL needs new pads I will likely go with Acura instead of Akebono.

hey Walfunk, did you have a "check emission system" light come on when the your TRS failed? My wife drove it to work today and the "check emission system" error light is on the MID, but she won't be home for a couple of hours for me to scan the OBD and I am anxious to know what it could be. Thanks!
