Has Acura has completely lost their mind? Why would they want to be like Maybach? Maybe to sell 10 cars a year? If they do go this upscale they will lose me as a customer as I can barely afford the RL right now. 2nd tier luxury is good enough for me.

Before they move forward with this, they should study the fate of the Volkswagen Phaeton.

Oooooooooookay.....

How is Acura going to rival Bentley or Maybach with its lack of marketing? I love my RL, but a Maybach it is DEFINITELY not, in terms of styling or tech. Now I'm REALLY worried about Acura and its marketing people. I would have felt better if they'd said they were aiming to be the Japanese Audi, which is where all the rumors say they're headed.

To keep this OT with RL, they have an old rumor about the next RL.

They want a high end car so the few that buy their jets can drive to them in top style.
Don't worry about it, as long as they build great cars like the RL for us we are fine.

I have a friend with a Cont Gt, very nice but only real thing going for it over the RL is the engine and style. Seats are very nice though.
Another friend has a Maybach AMG, fast and big but would NEVER want one, it is a big car.

Ignore this blurb. This MUST have been some off the cuff comment by Marek taken totally out of context. Obviously, Automotive News is a respected publication, but, this article has no credibility. I'm not sure what he meant by that comment, but, it could NOT be what the author is suggesting. If they posted the whole interview and I'm sure we'd see that.

Dam! Do you mean I have to cancel my comparative test drive of the Flying Spur?

LOL, well if you are seriously stumped on whether to get one Flying Spur OR an RL for each day of the week, then, no, don't cancel your comparison.

The author of the article is playing up the comment. The specific quote states:

"We want to rival Bentley and Maybach in performance and design," according to the chief designer at R&D.

The comment simply says they have benchmarked these two ultra-luxury brands in terms of design and performance; not as where they would like to see the brand as a whole.

Instead, the author of the article has successfully misled everyone to believe that Acura plans on chasing the ultra-luxury segment. Do not lesser brands benchmark "the best" when developing new vehicles?

Just thought I'd poin this out before everyone gets too hyped up about Acura trying to compete in the ultra-luxury segment; chill out!

Just a fun article that mentions our car. I for one am happy whenever a find a pulse from Acura and future planning ( and dare I say "marketing".)

I noted this as well, thus my comment above.

I wish we could read the entire interview for better context, though.
