water in brake reservoir?

I went in to a chain tire store today for a tire rotation and the tech showed me what he said was water in the brake reservior. I flushed the system and added new brake fluid about a year ago. Could this really be water in there? it looked like a cloudy substance floating near the top of the reservoir. What should I do? Can I drain the fluid out of just the top inch or so of the reservoir and then refill with fresh fluid, or must the whole system be flushed and new fluid again added? I'm not convinced what he showed me was water!!! ???

What else could it have been? Whenever I see water in brake fluid or oil for that matter it's a cloudy haze and and it floats toward the top because the fluids hydrophobic..

Remove as much water as possible from the tank, then remove as much brake fluid as possible from the tank. Then flush the system twice.

Moisture in the braking system will seriously screw up your braking system and cause very expensive repairs if not dealt with quickly.

Yes indeed drain as much as possible then I personally if I could see actual water in their would bleed the entire system with new fluid until there was no old fluid left period, and then do it again to be safe! Water or air will seriously screw things up!

Just have the mechanic you took it to flush the system. Its like $70. If you have a power bleeder, which i suspect you dont, do it yourself, very easy if you know how. Use DOT3 fluid.
