Warranty Fixes

As I mentioned before I just got into a 05 RL still under factory warranty. I knew there were going to be some minor fixes due to the price and I was fine with that. Here are a few of the fixes that I wanted to see if it would covered under my warranty.

1. Left front headlamp is out. I would think it would be covered since it should not have gone out by now at least.

2. Right side mirror marker lens cracked (I'm thinking that wont be covered)

3. Side mirrors viberate pretty bad, I know I'm being picky but I figured while I'm up there.

4. Fog light is out, looks like the lens was struck by a rock causing a small hole thus causing the light to go out, the whole thing needs to be replaced

Thanks guys, I promise I'm going to pay you guys back with some knowledge after I have some first hand experience!

I think it really depends on your dealer but I would think they will fix the headlight and the vibrating mirrors. The mirrors may just need to be tightened up as they tend to work loose on their mounts.

The cracked marker lens and broken fog light will most likely fall on you to fix.

^^^

Agree. You're likely to have to pay for those items considered wear like the foglight and side marker lens.

Thanks guys.

Another question, one of my A-Spec rims has a pretty noticeable amount of road rash on it, what options do I have? Can I get it rechromed or should I wait until the unlikely event of ebay getting a single occurs or what? All of them have slight marks but one of them is far worse, are those "exchange" programs any good?

Loose mirror

I had a passenger side mirror that started to vibrate when I was driving and the dealer replaced the entire mirror.

I've had road rash repaired on old rims (thank goodness I haven't curbed my babies on the RL so far. ) using a national chain called Mobile Wheel Repair. Costs $125/wheel but they do a great job. You might want to look for a local wheel repair shop.

Wow great! I have a location just a hour away! I'm just worried about them only being able to help Alloy though, so I'm interested to see what they say!

I've called and message was left!!!

OK...so they "fixed" my headlight saying that it was unplugged....they plugged it in and then it worked for about one day...went back today and they said another plug was undone and they plugged that back in...lights still working BUT after I turn them on the one they plugged in with flicker...dont get me wrong, it's only for a milasecond but what I dont want is run out of my warranty and this amount to more.

But if you dont think the flicker is a big deal then I wont worry about it but I would like to get a few opinions before I just forget about it

HID lights don't turn on "instantly" like a regular light with a filament. The light is caused by a bright arc between two electrodes and when fisrt turned on, can take a (very) short but obvious time to ignite. I'd guess this is the "flicker" you are seeing. If they stay on after that, they're fine. Some folks have seen their lights flicker while driving over bumps, etc. If that's the case, the bulbs probably need replacing.

If you do have problems, and even if you do not, look in the Acura Service News sticky here--there is one article on HIDs issues and possible fixes.

I would take anything that is a manufacturer defect back for repair... but any wear and tear is not covered. SO #3 vibration would be covered...but lights have a finite life.. and are like brakes and tires..

It does not make sense tha a dealer would not take opportunity with warranty repairs.

You have no cost but the dealer still gets paid by Acura. Many dealers LIKE to do warranty repairs as it pleases the customer and they bill for a repair the customer may not have expected to have done.

My dealer noticed the pleather of the center arrest bubbled and offered to replace it. I asked how much? Nothing,,,,under warranty! Turns out the entire center armrest assembly was replaced at over $537....billed to Acura.

The only reason I can think where a dealer would be wary of making a warranty repair is when they are covering for a misstep they made with the vehicle and cannot appropriately reconcile a warranty repair with Acura.

Blazing, this is normal behavior.

When you turn on the car, the headlights (usu. right) swivel during the self-diagnostic. Further, the system doesn't work fully until you have been driving a certain distance. For me it's about 1/2 mile or so before I notice it....but that's because the only curve until then is the entry to the freeway.

At a stop, the right headlight turns and not the left in order that you don't blind oncoming traffic.

(Paraphrased from page 140, 2006 RL manual)

Another Warranty question for you guys....in my drivers seat I can see where the heating modules actually are...they have a dark gray around them (almost like it burned a little?)

I was wondering is this something that should be covered under warranty?

Probably just dirt outlining the heating elements. Try a good leather cleaner. If the heaters are working properly, I's be surprised if it would be covered under warranty but it never hurts to ask.

no acceptable to me. If you want the leather completely replaced you should take it in and have the fix it under warranty. I had some leather work done once, a small bolster piece on my cl, and they did a good job. I think they take all the leather from the same piece, when they upholster, so there could be slight color variation on the replacement. I think toom much heat from the heater elements burning the leather is more viable than dirt.. Just my 2cents.

Anything that goes wrong with the car, and should not, is covered. Just tell the dealer rather than ask. Say " I want, or need, you to fix this xxxx under warranty, and I'll need a loaner car."
