Wait on Gen 3?

I bought the RL in 05 and have suffered some of the "new model" issues but, at the time, I was not concerned because I thought that it was only American cars that suffered from this problem. I was wrong. Now I keep reading about the recomendation to wait for the 3G and I am now concerned about the 1st year of that model. Rumor has it that it could be drastically different which could translate into issues. The 09 is getting a bit old in the tech department but it is refined compared to a new model.
3G RL = 3.7 V6 + turbo + KERS - 420 HP available for 8 seconds! That should do it.

I would have to guess you won't find a 3G under invoice.

You mean the 3G RL that is only rumored for release in late 2010 as a 2011 model?

yep, long time to wait.

I have a feeling that the 3G base might look very similar to 2.5G

In your case, if you really have the new car bug, you might be well-served by the SH-AWD TL/tech if you can get past the looks.

If you can wait, the RL will continue to serve you well.

If that's the case, my RL may become a little less uber exclusive.

Right now, I haven't seen a single CMBS on the road.

Considering that...I probably have 1 of less than 10 Red CMBS IN US!

what other car can match up to that huh?

Bob, I like you, cannot get past the looks but a far greater issue is that the TL feels cheaper - the quality is nothing like the RL. Another issue would be the exclusivity of the RL as opposed to the TL - maybe that's why they made the TL so ugly, there won't be much chance of you seeing another one!

The TL has the hardware for sure and the electronic toys.. but you can see where your extra thousands of dollars goes when you pay for an RL. The interior is a step or two above all around.

By the time a CMBS gets close enough to see, the CMBS kicks in and I never can see if it's a CMBS. Maybe that's why you have never seen them!

No idea how long it might take

back in 2001 I bought a 98 acura nsx (widebody kit etc on it already from the dealership) because they told me that the new NSX wouldn't be out for another 2 years or so and like did it even ever come out?

Very unconfirmed, but I read in another forum the RL has been delayed to 2012, and RWD is still in question. Total rumor right now.

Last info I could find was written in November last year which spawned some articles written in December, but they were quotes of this one, which is sort of before all the financial doom and gloom really hit home.

If they didn't delay the ZDX -crossover sport utility- in this economic environment, I don't see why they would delay the 3G RL. It doesn't make sense to keep selling a 7 year old car when the rest of your lot is newly redesigned and outguns your own flagship; including a new 6AT transmission.

the revised 2009 RL was introduced in Chicago on February 2008, so I expect the 2011 RL to be introduced sometime next year Perfect timing to compete with the upcoming new Infiniti M and GS I think.

I totally agree. I'm guessing that if the 3G RL is introduced as a 2011 model, then it should be available for sale in about a year from now. We'll just have to wait and see.

Does Acura really have any say when the next RL comes out or will they be stuck with whatever the next Honda Legend is and whenever the next Legend comes out?

I'm in the perfect situation when the time comes for the 3G RL to debut...

I can enjoy my RL for a while, get all I can out of it, and then... Get 3G RL. Or, if 3G RL is then go over to the CPO Lexus or CPO BMW department.. Well, not really, I'd be going onto cars.com first, ha.

I doubt Acura will have much of a say.

The first 2010 RL's were available to allocated dealers for ordering last month. Build dates start in mid may, suggesting a late June arrival. No changes other than colors have been announced.

Sigh. I thought for sure that Acura would kill the RL for the 2010 MY.

Although I'm not a fan of the '09-'10 RL either, I'm curious to see what the new color variations are. If someone knows, please post link.

Valid concern about the first year bugs. Plus, since the next FMC is at least another year away (maybe longer) that leaves waiting on the next RL hard to do if you are looking for a new car soon.

On the bright side, we all know the current RL is still a great car and slightly improved with the latest MMC. Eventhough it doesn't represent Acura's leading edge technology any longer, I think we can all agree it's still a hell of a car and a hell of a value at these prices. If I was looking to replace my RL I'd have to give the new one some consideration, although the new TL SHAWD has more refined technology and all the driveability of the RL for considerably less money. Eventhough the RL is a great value, owning both an RL and a TL, I'd still have to give the nod to the TL for best value (if you like the bold styling).

Also, lets not forget the ZDX. If the refinement and technology are your highest priorities, this xover/sedan/coupe thing might be a real jumping off platform for a lot of RL owners. I know it has my attention as a replacement for my MDX in 1 1/2 years.

I also bought my 2005 RL in 2005. I didn't really get any first year bugs except for the software glitches. It could have been a lot worse.

It depends on when you want a new car. The 2010 model RL is the same as the 2009, from what I understand. So the soonest we will see an all-new RL would be the 2011 model, if they renew it then. If you want to wait until the second model year, we are talking about 2012. If you can wait 3 years or more for a car, then great.

The ZDX is intriguing. It looks like they took the best of the RL and gave it a little more practicality. The ZDX's styling might be controversial, but at least no one would ever mistake it for a Honda Accord.

I have seen two red ones in the Seattle area, the drivers were older though, so I doubt we will ever see them on here.

They improved on the already excellent RL interior for the ZDX. I'm hoping the next RL has a similar interior design.

Acura may have had questionable exterior designs recently, but their interior design team is tops in my book.

Now that it is virtually impossible to tell a 2009 CMBS car from a distance, unlike the 2006-08 models, I wonder how many are really out there.

It would be interesting to find out how many CMBS units are made for each year. My guess is less that 10%.

It is unscientific, but whenever I peruse inventory, only the really big dealers have CMBS, usually 2 out 12-20 RLs they stock, and many of the small dealers have none. In fact, the other thing that seems to be really rare is the base model (not tech package).

The radar is usually behind the bushes so you don't see them until it's too late.
