Vsa

I remeber reading about one of the Forum members who had an accident with his RL when he turned off his VSA.
Well, i thought i should try to do the same and guess what. I CANT turn VSA off.
I dealer had the car for 8 days and they replaced everything related to that matter, but couldn't figure it out. Honda sent a tech from Japan, who took one look at my car and said: "Its the after market rims"
I have 19 inch Ron Jon Devotion and the overall diameter is the same as the stock 17 with its big tires. The dealer can't do much for me untill i replace my rims with the stock one.
I told them screw it, i'm not ready to roll with the 17 inch, so i got my car back.
Does any of the forum members here have anything over 18 (Acura recommends 18 and nothing over) with any problems

I think they are just looking for something to blame, I can't see how rim size would have to do with that vsa switch on the dash.

You know, Qatar, your dealer seems to blame all your troubles on aftermarket stuff. I fail to see how having 19's that, with tire, are the same diameter as the stock 17's, would cause a problem with the VSA. I call dealer here.

you should be able to turn off the VSA without even putting the car in drive.
Turn the ignition on, leave it in park-and you should be able to turn off the VSA.
Geesh... are they that stoopid?

The VSA switch doesn't respond, it was replaced along with the speed sensor.
Basically, the switch is disabled and VSA cannot be turned off. My initial worry was it wasn't working at all, but as long as its functioning, its all right with me.
The dealer and Acura/Honda tach coldn't figure out how to repair my TPMS last month, and the rims of course were to be blamed. I know that the dealer is trying its best at least as the service consultant is a personal friend, but imagine how you would feel if the person who participated in designing your car cannot figure out whats wrong with its TPMS!

The tech said, since the TPMS isn't sending any signal to the receiver, it automatically disabled the VSA and that cannot be corrected till i go with the size Acura recommends.

VSA... HMM..... please don't ever turn that thing off on a wet road trying to take a turn, unless you are in a HUGE parking lot.

Do you not have the TPMS sensors in the RonJons? If so, does the system constantly nag you?

I have the TPMS, and actually i had three sets replaced hoping that the error was from the senors. The last time my MID displayed TPMS reading was July 2005, and ever since i've lived with the annoying warning system.
Dealer said that the rim prevents the sensors from sending any reading

Taking a turn too quickly maybe but you can take a turn in the wet with it off.

Seems like the dealer (if they REALLY wanted to find the problem) could swap on some tires/wheels from another RL and see if VSA was responsive then. Pretty well settle the finger pointing in pretty short order looks to me.

The dealer told me that they've done that and were able to switch VSA off.
Now that confused the hell out of me, because it didn't make any sense.
How would RONJON wheels prevent my TPMS from working (I'm the only one with that problem) and how can it be resolved.
Obviously i'm not going back to 17 or even 18, and i rather keep my rims than switch them

I was looking at the service manual and it appears the tpms sensors mount on the inner part before the valve stem. I would think out of all the wheels those rj wheels should work with the sensors. Just seems odd that they don't work.

Just a guess, but wheels with a higher Iron content could be enough to block the signal from the TPMS to the receiver. If I remeber correctly there was even a specific tire that caused the same problem on the early C5 Corvettes. Too much stainless steel cord!
