Voice Command system slow to respond at times

I have noticed that the voice command system is very slow to respond when used for the first time after the car is started.

For Example: the when I speak the command "CD Play Disk x", it takes about 3 seconds before the system repeats the command back to me. After that, it typically only takes about 1 second.

It is almost as if the voice recognition system is in 'sleep' mode until it is used for the first time.

Anyone else notice this ?

After the 4 Acura Recall so-called fixes, I've also seen this probem as well. It can be 5-10 seconds or more after the command is issued (and the button is released). Typically, this happens when I'm demo'ing the feature to a passenger for the first time.

After being a faithful AHM buyer for over 25 years (with a few Mercedes in between), this is my last Acura. I am also looking at the GS3 and GS4. The magnitude of small problems are simply unacceptable in this class of vehicle, and the Acura dealer and Acura Client Services are simply unable to help.

Sorry to appear to be a "whiny" customer - but I've had it. Today, in a driving rain, I had a near-miss accident due to the fact the passenger-side mirror failed to re-position itself.

Could you elaborate on that? Re-position itself after what? Parking, backing up, . . . ? Not questioning your desire to change marques just wanting more info on a potential problem to look out for.

Sorry, Karl, for not being more clear - the scenario on the passenger-side mirror was failure to re-position itself after backing up. This has been a very intermittent problem since the Acura Update recall was applied, but has now happened on 2 consecutive days. Problem is you don't notice it until you have to use the mirror.

To workaround this situation (with the mirror) I keep the L-R switch in the middle position, so that side mirrors don't move down for backing. When I actually need it - I turn it to L or R, then after switching to the forward gear return in to middle and check that the LED on the button "1" (settings for the first driver) is lit. I mention that when mirror fails to return to normal the LED on the button is not lit and I can return the mirror to the normal position by pressing this "1" button. The problem with this approach is that the buttons "1" and "2" don't work if you are not on Parking, so you cannot fix the mirror while you are driving.

Yeah I have noticed an occasional delay after first starting the car and using the voice command...sometimes it would be fine other times there was that 3 second delay.

As for the mirror thing and the 4 part update Acura is offering....that is messed up and I for one wont be doing those updates.

aphotog, i would suggest holding the mirror up and down buttons in sequence to hit the upper and lower mirror limits and hold it there for 5 seconds to see if that resets the passenger side mirror. I tried that after the 4 point update caused the same mirror problem you have. I am not sure if that corrected the mirror issue because I also had the intermittent door relocking issue after the 4 point update, which I fixed by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a minute before reconnecting. SInce I did not get a chance to confirm that the mirror was fixed before I disconnected the battery cable, I am not sure about the proposed mirror fix. Anyway, everything works fine now.

Ahh, that bites. As I do a lot of street parking I really depend on this feature to snug up to the curb so I'd be honked if it starting doing that.

Sounds like Acura needs to come up with an update for those of us who did the 4-part update. I am not so sure that I will abandon Honda-Acura over these issues but I will think seriously before buying a 1st year model again of any car. Seems to be what makes the biggest difference in "bugginess".

I don't think it is just Acura having these problems. I read an article (don't rembember if it was in "Automobile" or "Motor Trend") about the drop in quality of the German cars, especially Mercedes. The main problem appears all the high-tech gadgets that are now on the cars. The more features a car has the more likely there is going to be a problem. These features all rely on computers and we all know how computers are. Sometimes they work fine and sometimes they don't. Maybe the car manufacturers are buying software from Microsoft. HA!

catsailr - it's the current issue of Automobile that has the article on quality "challenges" facing the Germans. It's a good read.

Don't laugh too loud. I copied the contents of the Nav DVD from the RL trunk to my computer and quickly expected it. Don't fall from your chair - it is Windows based.

The day my RL experiences a "Microsoft Moment" is the day I trade it in for a bicycle. The file system on the the DVD may be MSFT, but please, someone out there tell me that that the RL's OS is Acura proprietary !!!
