Value of "New" RL w/6000 miles

Given the availability of a new RL at $41K and used 2006's for $38-39K, how would you value an unregistered RL with 5800 miles. Factory warranty applies, so no Used car extended warranty. Still eligible for Applecare.

Would you just price it comparable to other used RLs on the lot and add the value of the dealer installed accessories, maybe @ 50% of value. FWIW, it's the GMs car. They just trade them in before the break 6000 miles so they can still be registered as new. This one is loaded, as you'd expect...but as usual most accessories add no value to the used car valuation.

Thoughts or other considerations...

I would classify it as used, even if it wasn't registered (ie it was still "used" for 6000 miles, registration or not). If the $38-39k you are quoting for used RL's have comparable mileage, I'd price it around the same.

If only any car warranty was as good as Applecare....

"Hi, Acrua? My ashtray's full."
"No problem, sir, let's just go ahead and replace that car..."

5800 miles = used, registered or not. I think most appraisers and KBB would agree. As mileage seems to be what dictates pricing on all cars, with 5800 being quite substantial to me. And you answered your own question about pricing with accessories. They add little to no value. So deal like it was used, but take comfort that it will be registered as new.

the only difference it could make is financing...it's easier and cheaper to finance a "new" unregistered car than a "used" car.

Bu tthen again, that's a difference of only a couple % over the cost and time financed, so it may or may not be much of a savings anyway.

Actually for financing purposes, it's all based on whether or not the car was registered or not. I got an incredible deal back in 93 on an Acura Vigor that had 10K miles. The car was never registered and I got new car financing and had the dealer extended the warranty to cover the miles on the car.

As for KBB values, yes mileage would come into play if the car was totaled, but 5K miles isn't going to affect the value that much.

Absolutely. I forgot about the financing aspect which is always lower than financing a used car. Wear and tear generally takes precedence for me, but at 5800 miles, the car should still be in great condition. But again, that doesn't change my advice of getting a deal based on the pricing of a used car.

Agree.. the "used" angle should be leveraged for negotiations.
