I'm going to revive this thread. I bought an 06 RL in June of 2012. Yesterday I had the smoke under the hood. Found out this recall was never performed. Now I'm having the hose replaced and the service manager is telling me the power steering pump needs to be replaced because of the heat. He said the damage was cause the low ps fluid created more heat and damaged the pump. Seeing as how I bought this car in 2012 and the recall was known about well before I bought the car, do I have recourse against the independent dealer that sold it to me or am I SOL on the pump replacement? The dealer wants 1000 to replace the pump but I go to an independent honda/Acura shop who will probably do it for half with a free loaner. Just feel like someone should have caught this long before since the recall was known (not discounting my own stupidity for not checking and assuming it was done before I got it)

Thanks for the revive, I had no idea. My PS went out for a few seconds the other day... I was so confused as to what happened. I'll have to ask the dealer.

Just be careful because the recall doesn't cover the pump, just the hose (I would think that if the issue with the hose caused the problem with the pump, that would be covered as well, but I digress).

Also be aware of the recall on the brake master cylinder. Basically they replace 6 gaskets, from what I under stand.

goaly, I think you are SOL. The seller has no responsibility to complete recalls, just to pass a standard safety inspection. Also, it's likely the pump wouldn't need replacing if the previous owner had the recall performed within reasonable time. Acura admitted their fault, offered a free solution, and the previous owner was too lazy to take care of their car.

Oh well. I found out I can get a refurbished pump for about $120 (after core) and then get it installed for about $120 from a local Honda/Acura Specialist... Total of about $240. Not too bad for a pump replacement. Otherwise the car is in great shape 2 years after I bought it.
