Upper Display

Have had my 08 RL for 3-4 weeks and still learning this vehicle. Sometimes the upper display is on, other times its not. I would think it should be on continuously or am I unknowingly causing this? Owners manual is no help.

Do a search under my name. There is a detailed FYI for this issue.

That's right do an advanced search plenty of posts.

You have to pop it open (just pull hard up) and disconnect the plug, and then re-solder that circuit.

I dunno how to re-solder so i've been living with it for a few years.

You literally just have to touch a soldering iron to the solder for a few seconds. or you can take the unit to a PC repair place (NOT Bestbuys), Will take no more than 15 mins...had mine done about 3 years ago and zero issues...

Thanks! My advanced search skills on this site are hit or miss...

Walfunk, found your post. Great DIY!

Former electronics master solderer so should be simple enough. Flux is your friend.

Nice to see, like RL09 said, you just have to pull up on the display to remove it instead of disassembling the dash. Something easy for once....

A master solderer? Well a shop today quoted me 40-50 to re-solder. It didn't feel right.

Feels like a 20 bucks job takes 5 mins... .

My pleasure man. Acurazine has helped me sooo much, it was my way of giving back. You should have it back up and running in about 30 mins...very easy fix.

Probably takes longer to heat up the soldering iron than do the fix.

There is a service you buy on eBay - ship it to the ebay seller, they fix it and ship it back... it came under $20 and few days for a turn-around.. but pretty easy fix ... I just did not want to buy soldering gun and then throw it away since I do not need it ever
