Unknown Noise

The wife called me this morning about a noise she thinks is coming from the engine. She said it is making a screeching sound and it did it about 3 times. I said she needs to roll the window down and try to determine where it might be coming from. I said there is an inexpensive solution (power belt) or a real expensive solution (drive shaft bearing). She said the noise came while she was pulling out of a drive way and under 30 mph.

Anyone care to venture which of the two suggestions it might be? I am betting it is the center support bearing.

Maybe one of the belts is wet?

Another belt vote. Nobody has described the driveshaft issue as a squeal, just a whine.

Great, thanks for the info. I will check it out tomorrow if the rain lets up. The car has 90,000 miles on the odo now and we are looking at a Tbelt job here soon. So, I am thinking your all right about the slipping belt. Is there an adjustable tensioner I can take a twist or two with my socket?
