tachometer markings - little inner markings.. what is it for??

just the other day I noticed that on my tachometer,, there are what appear to be a second set of little marks on the inner portion of the gauge...they are on teh "inner" portion, along the area the needle sweeps..as opposed to the "outer" section that you visually pay attention to.

they look like they may/could light up given the color/shading of them, but I've never noticed them EVER until just the other day.

i was just curious what they were for??

Probably to match the other instruments as well as the blue "theme" of the interior lighting.
