Sub-frame being replaced

I had a clicking noise whenever I turned the steering wheel. Based on what I had read here, I figured something was up with the steering column.

But when they called they told me that they had to replace the sub-frame!
Don't know if anyone else has experienced this. On the upside at least I still have warranty and I'm getting a front wheel alignment done for free!

Be interesting to hear more on this failure.

That is an expensive fix. The part alone is over $1100

I've notice that I only get the clicking noise when the signal lights are on either for the right or left.

Could it be the CV joints? I never even heard of a subframe problem.

Haha - wiseass.

The clicking sound is as described by others in the steering column thread. Basically it's a metallic sound which is best described as a binding sound. It occurs in unison with the turning of the steering wheel irrespective of direction.

It's definitely not CV joints, because it occurs even when the car is at a standstill.

Now while I'm still inclined to believe it's the steering column there is one small anomaly - ever now and again when I close the driver's door with some force there is a metallic "clink" coming from the same area, almost like a loose heat shield. I just can't figure out what in the subframe would cause a noise that it produced solely by turning the steering wheel. Unless the subframe was bent and interfering with the steering column. But there's no damage to it.

Perhaps there was a broken weld on the subframe. The binding sound may have been a flex caused by the broken weld.

And for sleepinxlionhart....that clicking you have can only be cured by a complete engine, drivetrain and transmission replacement....which is not covered under warranty.

Well that's what (I suppose) the tech suspects as the notes said nosie coming from area of welded engine mount bracket.
