Strut and Shock replacement
I have an 07 RL that originally had the PAX tire set. When they wore out I replaced them with after market wheels and rims. So the original PAX were 17" and the replacement set I purchased were 18". The car has 73,000 miles on it. I just replaced the original set of 18" tires and after only 4,000 miles I am seeing feathering. The Firestone salesman said that is because of my Struts and Shocks being worn and needing replacement. I would think that it is to soon. Does anyone feel I need to replace my shocks and struts or is this more about the different size tires on the car or any other explanation.
by looking at the car and your description, there is no way of telling if your shocks are bad.
the firestone sales man, was being a salesman.
an alignment is a great tool to figure out if you have worn suspension pieces or if its just simply out of alignment.
I would advise getting an alignment first, to see where you are at.

I only went back to 2012. I got tired of looking through so many threads about the same topic.
great answer:
The life will depend heavily on the roads driven and the style of driving. How often are you going up and down? How often are the struts being fully extended or slammed down? Also, some RLs here have experienced blown struts after the car was put on a lift, and the age of the struts under stress will play a role too.
I didn't get a chance to change mine b/c I killed the car too early. However, on Legend #1, I had a blown rear strut at ~150k miles and 13 years old. Honestly though, the struts should have been changed before I bought it at 114k miles and 8 years old. The car rode well, but I bottomed out often. I attributed that to the height of the car until I changed all 4 struts and never bottomed out again.
Struts are a wear and tear item that are sort of hard to judge. The biggest issue is that the decrease in performance is so slight, that you don't notice the difference. As they wear out over 100k miles and 7 years, you get used to how they change. It isn't until they are changed that you can tell the night and day difference. I would suggest changing the struts on a heavy luxury cruiser like the RL every 100-120k miles. The car is designed for comfort, and it is a heavy pig.

I would love to check out the first alignment sheet first.
to see if everything is spot on.
if something isnt spot on, i'll be able to tell real quick.
then we can look at things that affect the alignment.

That was in Legend #1. The car was designed much lower to the ground than the RL, and the sagging struts likely didn't help anything. There was only 4-5 inches of clearance between the ground and the bottom of the front bumper. When I say bottoming out, I mean the bottom of the car touching the ground. Usually it was the front bumper, but occasionally, it would include the splash shield and oil pan. This could happen on slight dips at speed, larger dips going slow (like ends of driveways), or speed bumps. Anything that caused a sudden weight transfer vertically would cause something to hit. After I changed the struts, 90% of what used to cause contact didn't any more.
I am going back with the (OEM) struts do i have to replace all (4) at once? and if so is the A-SPEC better?
Good luck with finding an A-Spec suspension kit. Might as well be looking for a Yeti. I have wondered if the MMC suspension which is supposedly very similar to the A-Spec would fit on the '05-'08 KB1. Anybody?
