Streaky windshield

This may sound nuts, but I swear my RL's windshield is VERY difficult to clean...without getting streaks. I've tried three different types of cleaners (and different types of towels) with no luck. I use the same towels/cleaners on my wife's car and it's perfect.

Am I the only one who is plagued with streaks? Any recommendations for me?

Sounds like it's time for some new inserts!

Have you tried waxing the windshield? That should clear it up...

don't wax the windshield - I did that as a kid and you will regret it big time.

We bought some cleaner in a quart bottle from a local janitorial supply after growing tired of streaks. Every cleaner we had used left them. The stuff is mix 1 or 2 drops per spray bottle with water. We almost called BS when he sold it to us but we were desperate. Guess what? No streaks, no film anymore for months. Stuff is incredible.

Hmmm... I've been doing this for around ten years and haven't had any issues yet. Maybe it depends on the wax or maybe I just haven't noticed. Either way, good to know there can be a negative to this.

Good advice merlin

I use quick detailer, sure it takes some effort to polish it up but she is clear and rain resistant.

i liked the recommendation to "degrease" the windshield. a trip to the local home depot brought some comet (yes, the powder). that and about about five minutes with a very wet sponge did the trick. crystal clear...thank goodness.

The stuff that has been in use for decades to clean windshields of all grease and water marks has been "BonAmi polishing cleanser. It doesnt' scratch, its Feldspar. It is all that I use to clean glass. Just wet the windshield, sprinkle a light coating and scrub with a soft towel. Wash and its ready to go.

"People write in all the time with interesting uses for the 1886 Formula Cleaning Powder. One of the most common is cleaning glass. The original formula is safe to use on most glass because the tallow soap means that a slurry of the powder and a little water will glide over the glass surface, cleaning away dirt but not scratching. This formula leaves behind a slight, invisible film that protects the glass from salt spray making it a favorite for boats and seaside homes. This film keeps mirrors from fogging up in the bathroom too."

On the wipers I use Formula 303 to keep them supple with smooth wiping.
