Let me say up front that I am not a huge fan of
Onstar. ...and I originally thought I would be.

WhenI first got my RL I was estatic that Onstar
was included. Hearing all those cool commercials
about how Onstar saves people's lives sure made
it sound like the hotest gadget anyone would want
in their automobile....

....until I saw the annual price of having Onstar
and I knew that once my yearly free offer was up
that I would not be renewing.

Anyhow, here's the point in this thread....

In Today's USA TODAY (11/7 page 11A) there is a
big advertisement regarding Onstar's new Vehicle Diagnostics
that essentially runs your automobile through hundreds
of diagnostic checks every month and sends you an
email with the results and any actions that need to
be taken.

The picture in the ad shows a computer screen with
a very well laid-out report that gives you a summary
of things like Engine & Transmission system, Air
bag system, Antilock Braking System, Remaining Oil
Life, Mileage and recommended Maintenance, Hands-Free
Calling Time, etc.

Well, actually, this looks pretty good as long as
Onstar is including it FREE with my FREE yearly trial.
I still don't think it's enough to justify the outrageous
annual fee Onstar wants, but hey, I'll try it as long as it
is being offered.

To Sign up: all you need to do is push the BLUE
button, or, log onto: onstar.com to register.

I just thought I'd give you all a heads-up on this.

 

I'm pretty sure that the feature you are speaking of only works with GM vehicles and not the Acura, VW and Audi onstar equipped vehicles. I am not sure though.

 

Cool find! I'm going to give it a try when I get home since you need your onstar acct number to enroll.

 

Ah, yeah I just saw that part about "available on GM vehicles only". Oh well.
