Spark Plugs
Spark Plugs
From what I have heard, the RL doesn't get the plugs changed until the 90K service. I am from the old school and want to change the plugs out at 60K, as I have noticed that the mileage is down a bit over what it was at 45K.
As with the other cars I have, I will be putting in the NGK Laser Iridium Platinum Tipped plugs. Any thoughts, comments, and is the plug number for the car IZFR6K-11 / 6994 ? Who has the best price as list is $12 each.
How hard is it to get to the plugs in the back bank?

Hello Rob how hard is it to change the Air Filter on the RL and is there any more options to the OEM filter fitting the same area without modification.
From my experience, both ac filter and air filter are very easy to change. The air filter inside teh car is by far the easiest thing to change among other car, you just has to pull out the upper glove compartment and the filter will be hiding inside waiting for you to pull it out. The a/c filter is a little bit tight but as long as you can get all 4 screws out, the cover will be easily taken care off.
We are talking about a 1-2 mpg difference. I read some posts on here about the plugs going 100K, but I feel that at 60K, it is time to swap them out. Afterall, how hard can it be and a minor expense. How in the heck did we get off on air cleaners from spark plugs?
I was just asking whether there might be something else going on to lower mileage. Just thinking too hard, I guess. My understanding is that changing the spark plugs is not difficult if you wish do to do it. Most are doing it at 100k miles, though, on this car.
Edit: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...7&postcount=18 and another person in the same thread said it took 30 minutes to do.

Denso makes NGK but the tip is better and the type of metal they use is much stronger on the Denso plugs making for long lasting and they will hold there gap perfect the hole time there in the car! Believe me they are Turbo tested. The prices are almost the same
we have a 2006 RL. That said, we also have a 2004 Mercury Sable with high end plugs that are listed to 100,000 miles. We changed them at 60,000 - they did not look bad but the mileage increased about 15%. Upon talking with the Ford dealer we learned that 50,000 to 60,000 is where they see a decline in performance. On the 1995 Legend we owned, we used Denso plugs which were replaced at 60,000 and 120,000. The mileage improved less than 5% each time however the plugs were worn a little. I suspect that the autmotive industry now wants to sell minimum maintenance as a value point. We asked the local Acura Dealer to change the transmission fluid and differential oil, and they flat refused saying that they will only do maintenance when something breaks or the car asks for it. IMHO replacing the plugs at 60,000 to 70,000 is probably a good thing.
they said that to me to and i said are you f#$ken crazy this is my car and there is no way in hell the oil lasts 80000km's change it or you will never see me again!!! Try that Do you guys know there is shelf life on oil. Now you know
thought we were talking about spark plugs
