What are you going to do with that boat anchor that is now in the corner of the garage? How did you manage to get the crank bolt out to do the timing belt? You must have a big air compressor in your garage.

 

I recently changed the timing belt on my Odyssey. Ody and RL have a very similar engine and I have a big compress that can produce 200+psi of pressure and I wasn't able to get the crank bolt off.

I used the starter crank trick to loosen the bolt. You can look at some videos on youtube to get an idea.

For me and my past 2 Honda timing belt change, I used the special Honda crank pulley holding tool($20). Add an 8 ft cheater bar for leverage and some quality tools, got it loose like nothing at all. The compressor did not work for me at all...

 

The boat anchor gets parted out for the usable parts, like the coil packs, oil pan, etc that can sell on ebay. Then i strip the motor of bolts that i can put in my box of misc bolts as you can never have too many 10-17 mm bolts on hand. And then i post the remains on Craigslist for free and somebody usually comes and picks it up within the half hour.


As for the timing belt, that crank pulley bolt is a muther for sure but i have a friend that has one of these http://www.ingersollrandproducts.com...iMAX-Impactool and it breaks it. And yes i have a decent air compressor, its not huge but its solid for a shade tree mech like myself.

 

a higher psi compressor will help, but a quality impact gun makes a lot more power with the same compressed air than a cheap gun. I have a IR2135Ti that i used everyday for my job, but i understand that the weekend mechanic doesn't spend huge amounts for tools (simply common sense).
