Shocked at how cheap these are going now.
In looking at used cars (my wife will need one next year), I was browsing decidedly middlebrow options like 2010 Fusion and 2010 Prius. On a whim, I looked up used RL's and saw they're almost universally available in my area with mileage around 100-120,000 miles for an -06 at about $9,000 -- less money than the $10-13k that the cars on my list are going for.
The RL is still a tough call for an extremely price-sensitive shopper like her, for two reasons: 1) it gets miserable city MPG on premium gas, and she drives a very high number of city-only miles. 2) Repairs are infrequent, but costlier than for a mainline car (e.g, the carbon fiber driveshaft, or body parts if you crash).
But if you found an '06-08 that's had its timing belt changed and that checks out clean overall, wow. What a deal. We know an RL still has a lot of life left in it at that age. This car is an even more alluring secret now than when it was new.

I keep track of prices just for the hell of it. It's really amazing how cheap the RL has become. Even the 1G RL is absolutely dirt cheap. I mean, if you look at a clean Legend, you're paying as much as some 05 RL's... I was at a cars and coffee over the summer with some Audi guys and one of them was looking for a winter beater, I challenged him to look at the 2G RL and he scoffed me off... And then I saw him the following week. He made a Bee line to me and came to the same realization after doing his homework.

I keep track of them too, you get so much car for the money it's insane. Best bang for your buck for reliablity, performance, and luxury imo. Really like how rare they are too. In a few years they will be cheap enough to strip and track, spoon rl anyone?

I think it's a good thing!
only a select few know about this car, if one were looking to buy a solid used car...one could pick up an RL on the cheap!
2015 brought a lot of competition amongst new sedans.(one of the decades highest auto sales ever)
which means the used market will be saturated with tons of cars.

TOO LATE
Honestly, i love the look of the 2G RL for all the reasons already listed. I think car value doesn't mean much unless you're planning on selling the car. If you like it, it treats you well, it makes you smile every time you walk up to it and is a head turner, who cares about the monetary?

Reason you see a lot of these on sale is pretty much service: there will be timing belt needed, suspension, engine mounts, etc. - you add all of those, you will end up spending anywhere between 3 and 6k in bringing the car back to its glory, so 9-10k pricetag may be somewhat appealing, but do count on TLC for it and spending some money - then, you are all set for at least another 100k

Of course you get screwed with trade-in allowances, but a friend with an 05 that's got around 110k miles on it and has had the timing belt done - but has a bit of rust starting in the rear wheel well quarter panels (aka "Honda rot" which they all seem to do eventually here if driven in the winter) - was offered $1500 at a Honda dealer, $2500 at Toyota, and $3500 at the Acura dealer, which is where she originally bought the car back in 2010 and has always had it serviced.

That is awful. I just got $6k on trade-in for a 2007 CR-V with 104k miles, and it's condition was rough.

On the plus side it seems people here are still getting decent trade ins. I was given 14k flat trade in on my OBP back in June by an Acura dealer with a Sport Hybrid purchase. All in all, yes, I put money into it, but loosing 4k for 30k miles and 5 years of ownership isn't bad at all...

i was honestly shocked to get private party value from a dealer, but I was looking at a Sport Hybrid that was sitting on their lot and they were desperate to get me out with the RLX that day.... I mean, I know my car is clean, but private party value??

No kidding!
It's crazy though...kbb has been WAY low lately so maybe they have another way to do market analysis...
I'd have to go look at what they list for.
I really wish they made a 6MT version...that would be something I'd definitely test drive.

And with the crazy exchange rate which jumped further in the past few days, it's cheap to buy the Canadian ones.
There's an 09 that just popped up locally, 30k miles and at least a tech packg; 13k USD.

Hey guys, new to the group! Actually, first post here. Owner of a lightly modified 04 6MT G35 coupe and an 05 RL i purchased 4 days ago! Love the car btw. I was able to snag my 05 RL with 152k on the odometer for $5,000. Couldnt pass the deal up as i live in NY and my RWD g35 wasnt going to cut it in the upcoming months. I work for a used car dealer and was able to buy it for $1,500 less than the asking price of $6,495. To add a bit more insight and relevance to the original post, I see my job regularly selling 05 and 06 models with around 90k-120k for around $9k-$11k. Pretty crazy for a flagship vehicle

Welcome to the ranks! Make sure it had its 105k timing belt replacement -- that's your only real land mine.

I was just talking to my wife about this the other day (she has a lot of knowledge on cars and price tags) and i was telling her that the we can find RLs cheaper then TSXs probably because of the mpg but in Chicago and with our winters i love the RL i was thinking about getting another one since they are so cheap, but then i remember i get like 11-13 mpg since we drive all city miles. Also at one point i was thinking about selling my 2005 RL with 218k miles but ill get shit for it and its still a great car doesn't need anything i just did the timing belt kit and oil pump on it at 215k last time i did the timing belt was at 175k i warrantied the belt and water pump since i was installing oil pump (i had a massive oil leak and i just replaced everything i got mad lol)
