Sell 05' RL for a 12' TL?

Caught in a dilemma whether to sell my 05' RL or not? It has 149k trouble free miles and nothing wrong with it and I still like the car but am having "the new car itch". I looked at the refreshed 12' TL and liked it. Wanted to see what advice other Acurazine members have.

My suggestion is to go ahead and get the 2012 TL. It looks like the new 3rd generation RL will most likely be a 2013 model year vehicle. I have learned the hard way, you don't want to buy the first model year of a new generation of a vehicle. The manufacturer is still working out the kinks and bugs in the vehicle.
Just look at the 2005 RL, it had a lot of little minor issues with it. And that's why most people recommend getting a 2006 or higher used RL.
I had bought a new 2005 RL in Sept. 2005. and I absolutely loved my RL ! I had it for 5 years and traded it in for a new 2010 RL last august. Because I really like Acura and wanted to stick with a RL.
And also because I had the “new car itch” as well !
I will most likely in the future trade in my 2010 RL for a new 2014 RL. So bottom line, if u can't wait til 2014, just get the 2012 TL.

Same here. Drove '10 TL and like the mpg number and performance but hate the Autobot front and Decepticon back. I really hope they redesign the RL in 2012. I would love to see what it looks like before sinking more money into Acura.

I am also considering the same with my 06 RL. Only 70k miles but will need tires brakes etc soon. It is really sad that Acura cannot even give a glimpse of the future RL product. It probably won't be until 2013 now that the NY autoshow had no new Acura products and is the last show for model year 2012.

the new RL is going to have to be something really different if they want to keep selling them... the new TL is as big as the RL..and probably steals sales from the RL line... I suspected Acura had big plans for the RL... they planned to do an NSX.. tjhen the economy went in the toilet and everyone rethought the market.... who knows what they will do for the RL? it should have more power, more rear seat space..make it more on par with a 7 series or a LS Lexus.. heck, if Hyundai is nipping at Lexus' heels... Acura needs to leapfrog them bigtime! I hope for something really amazing...but i'm not holding my breath either!
as to whether you should get the new TL or not... go drive one. if you are in the market for a new car, you like your RL, and you want an SH-AWD luxury car - check out a nice CPO 09-11 RL, and the new TL....
I think the newer RL with the 3.7L and the 6speed auto woudl be nice... i'll bet it drives better than the 05-08 models... but i haven't driven one so can't say for sure.
the TL will be sportier, but won't feel as luxurious as the RL...
depends what you want.

Are you willing to give up power telescoping in your steering wheel?

TL Design Change?
How's it going folks! I've been weighing my options and thinking about purchasing a new 2012 TL SH-AWD. However, I was wondering if any of you know what year the design will totally change? I know the 2012 has a few changes made to the exterior, but still has the same frame and look as the last few years. If they're planning on changing the entire design, I will hold off and see how that looks before making the purchase. If you guys have any inside scoop I'd greatly appreciate the help! Take care!

Even if the new RL or TL came out in 2013/2014, the model doesn’t become rock solid until 2nd or 3rd model years. Then there will be a refresh the 3rd or 4th model year; which puts you out to 2015 or 2016. You could be waiting forever for the perfect car. If you are planning to keep the vehicle for a while (+50,000), every current model in Acura’s line-up is at its peak (not 100% sold on the new 6AT yet; but, so far it has been positive).

I just made the switch from a 2006 RL (43k miles) to a 2012 TL SH-AWD Advance. Same thing as you, had the "itch". Not sure where Acura is taking the new RL and not sure I want to go there if it's larger and more expensive. The TL is sized like the current RL so I gave up nothing in terms of space (maybe a "little bit" of trunk space). And as one poster posted, the new gen TL will probably be a 2014 and I never buy the first year run of a car so it would have been 2015 for me if I waited.
Love the TL. Better in tech, better in terms of driving dynamics. I do miss some of the little niceties of the RL like the power tilt and telescoping wheel (also previously mentioned), AFS and the power rear sunshades (although I never really used them - tinted windows. Just miss knowing I had them).

Thanks for all the info. I think now might be my greatest bet to make that purchase. I've been having trouble finding a dealership with a Black TL SH-AWD with the brown interior. I've only seen black on black. That brown leather looks too sweet to pass up though so I'll keep looking. Thanks again!

Hate to say this, but I'd look at either a current Infiniti M37x, or wait for the next-gen Hyunda Genesis to get one with AWD.
I love my RL, but if I were buying new, the current one no longer looks as good or is as modern as it was in 2005-08.
